Stratochamp needs this so he can hang it over the bookshelves that house his collection.  :)

Hey John,

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know that Paul was already running another Gygax auction so soon.

There's another TSR annual report and a Warrior of Mars going this time around. :)

Best regards,

Ronald

There was a similar looking one that sold during the Hedryx auction

First Prints of MM PHB and DMG all in one listing.

Conditions are not very good for any of them, but the pics an descriptions seem to describe conditions adequately.

BIN only listing; $139, with cheap shipping.

Price seems near the TOP considering the low end conditions of each book.

The MM Spine was partially seperated and re-glued.

The other two books have underlining, highlighting, and written notations throughout with moderately worn covers (see pics)

If I was a new collector still looking for 2 of them (or all 3) I would hit the BIN even with the condition problems.

It is cool with the first prints all there, but it just seems too steep. There were at least two, maybe three, true first print PHBs that sold within the last three years (I think you got one of them, if I'm not mistaken :D  -- outbidding me, but it had a smokey smell or something?) and I think I remember reading in some old posts about others that were up on Ebay previously (a Collector's Trove auction?). They're definitely rare, but the condition is just a deal killer IMO.

Wow, up to almost $500 already. I would have remarked about that in the "silliest auction price" thread, except I was actually interested (albeit about $350 ago :)). Did anyone anticipate it going that high? Any predictions?

I put a price of $600 to $700 when I first saw it.  Taking into account that some people are placing a premium on these particular items due to the Gygax provenance.

I don't want to put the kibosh on the auction, but I would be willing to bet other posters of this will be offered at some time.  Note the wording Paul has on the auction, the fact he doesn't tout this as the only one in the collection, and the fact Paul has already offered multiple copies of several items.  Still, I bet it would look nice framed on the wall....but there could be more copies to come.

If I may also say a few words, if you are buying these you should be buying them for the unique collectibility, not for the possibility of making a mint on resale.  So far, items I have seen reselling from Paul's auctions have gone for a fraction of the original price. Being auctioned under the Collector's Trove banner seems to attract larger bids than such items would normally get, especially for more common items.  But it doesn't seem to affect what the item will sell for later.

I think the last one that came up in the Hendrx auction sold in the $250-$300 range (unfortunately I don't have the final price saved), however it was the one that hung in the Dungeon Hobby Shop. The description was "good" condition with "Pinholes at the edges, three 1/16" tears to the very edge, some dirt in back from rubbing against other posters in a tube that they have been stored in for 26 years!".

It looks like a stock photo to me.
I wonder what the actual product looks like.
In most cases, the only way people know what printing they have is to look at Acaeum.

If you are talking about the Folio the seller posted additional pics in the description area.

Known seller - I don't recall him using stock photos.  But that would be an easy question to ask if someone is interested.  And the photo is of a first printing, based on the position of the date stamp on the cover.

:?  My browser doesn't pick up the other pictures. Looks like he uses a listing agent like Auctura or soemthing. Still, the guy's been around for a long time and I've never had a problem with him though I haven't bought from him in the last 18 months or so.

I have a couple of these and haven't ever bothered to look to see what printings they are. Never really thought they worth much.

They're not worth that much. I've picked up a couple first print folios over the years in similar condition for a fraction of that. Joe overprices things a bit IMO (which is of course his right, and he seems to do okay at it).
