CAUTION: The shrink on the D2 & D3 is obviously original, but I'm very suspicious of the D1.

dwarf wrote:

Why D1 SW is suspicious to your eyes ?
D1 seems to have a seam on middle of back cover, is it not a possible sign of an original SW of TSR of the early 80s ?
Are D2 and D3 SW more "original" because they are loose and wavy on the module ?
I'm interested to have details about your opinion on these SW items.

ExTSR wrote:Right. But the D1 shrink might be genuine; the seams look right (just not the bubbles).
But that shrink is indeed typical of early '80s... and D1 came out much earlier than that. :/

dbartman wrote:What ExTSR is alluding to is that these modules were packaged with shrink that was normally loose or "bubbly", not tight, like later modules.  The SW on D1 looks different than what would be normally expected for a monochrome.

SimperingToad wrote:
My limited experience with shrink is that loose shrink was the result of the machine not being up to snuff on the heat, while curling and possibly tears could happen from excessive heat. But then there are different machines, and I'm sure they don't all work the same.

interesting discussion, thanks.

The D1 on sale seems to be a 4th printing, dated 1980 on Acaeum module page.

When did TSR start to use the typical "new" thin and fragile SW with seam on middle of back cover is an interesting question.

That's my favorite: it didn't sell, so how can garner interest?  I know, RAISE the price!

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

this is not a hoax or joke this is number one of number one , after we won this item at gencon  people were offering a lot of money for it this  magazine , this is  a item that wasn't supposed to be up for bids you thought it would be a really cool item for people to bid on,  Timothy J Kask said he had something special and we outbid everybody, once word spread all across gencon the price of this magazine was unthinkable, this is the magazine if people thought was lost,

I'm just wondering, seriously, those at Gencon 2006, did word really spread across Gencon and was the price unthinkable????

I'm pretty sure that a reserve minimum is also £50, so if there is going to be a bid, might as well BIN. Of course, thats unless ebay haven't changed the minimum reserve in the UK.
