Just got one for a $30 BIN a couple of days back, no Ref. Sheets unfortunately. I'll hopefully be able to post in Recent Fun Finds when I see it first hand.

Volumn 1 has some minor wear (see photos 5, 6 and 7)....

...I bought this set in 1980 and only used it once or twice before switching to the 1.0 system.

Seller seems to be stretching the facts to the point of breaking.


Minor Wear?


Volume One is torn at the spine from the bottom all the way to the middle of the book, with old tape having been used at some point to try to keep it from tearing more.


Looks like that tape job failed as the tear is longer than the tape.


More tape in another picture at the bottom of a book (Cant tell which book, but assume still Volume One) that covers another tear, and above that it looks like the cover was bent back too.....

Perhaps, but someone surely abused Volume One at least.

I dont think that lot is worth the BIN price.
And we dont know his Reserve price, but With the BIN of $4,000; I suspect his "I will take that offer...."  is at or over $3,000.

We shall see what other folks feel this listing is worth, but I cant picture it breaking any price records.

I would need to see the inside front cover of one of the books to be sure.
Not the facing paper, but the cover.
That is where the printing data is for a second print wood grain anyway, a short line in the middle of the inside front cover.

I understand with a First Print that part is simply blank, but do the first print books have ANY printing or do they have totally blank white (or tannish) cover?
As far as I know, the data at the bottom of the inside front cover, is on every print of the OD&D Books.

Not so on the 3rds thanks to the cardstock used for that printing. Open the books once and they'll be damaged; guaranteed.

Yeah, the boxes don't tend to hybridize backwards so that's a pretty good tell-tale sign. The lousy color balance is what's causing the confusion with the books.

Yep, 1000 of the 5000 came with a signed art print.  If the box is still in shrink there is a sticker that will says it contains the signed print.

If the set is open, then you have to rely on looking at the print itself which is usually obscured in photos.
