Good news!  The EO committee has decided to raise the maximum number of prints to seventy!  That means everyone who signed up on the Nifty Fifty list AND the first twenty people on the Official Waiting List are now able to purchase a print!  This new list will be the "Suave Seventy List." If you have not registered your interest yet, it's likely people will drop out or not pay for one reason or another, and the new wait list people stand a good chance of getting a print.  State you interest on this thread and not by PM.  If you wish to no longer participate, please communicate that as well.  Do not pay now! :)

Hi!

Number 69) Islestrike is really me, Ak'Ptui.  I morphed into "bombadil" at one point, but then had to return that.  Still I liked the new me (especially my furry anorak!) so I never went back.

Two questions...
1. Are these numbered as well as signed prints, and are the numbers asigned randomly to people?
2. Any reason seventy was picked as it's a weird number. Seventy-five being a more logical choice because it encompasses the burent want list, and still leaves the glorious number 1 print available for whatever.
It just seems that if you're gonna concede to increasing the print run, then why not take the other four instead of stopping half way there. Don't get me wrong. I was not in favour of the increase. But deferring to the decision of the committee as we have done, I wonder why the arbetary '70' as opposed to '75'?

Besides, some of those on the list appear to be members who joined just to get this, and have not contributed to either the site or the community here. Listing them before the likes of ashmere and simron seems a little unjust. This was one issue that many people have brought up, and the committee was meant to be looking at. I'd be willing to bet that one of those vultures will have their print on eBay before some of us receive our mail.

Numbers will be randomly assigned;

The number of the print run isn't arbitrary; basically, when you wish to advance the print run you have to do it under a specific set of guidelines.  For example, the print runs may be 50, 70, 90, 110, etc.  Paul can give more information, but I believe after 70 the number jumped up quite a bit if we wanted to increase the print run.

The issue of people joining just to get a print is something that the committee is aware of, and will be addressed. However, there are only a couple of people that appear to have done this, it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem.

I recognize almost every name on the list from posts.  I bet, however, we could derail the ongoing Faro/Aneoth saga by starting a thread about what constitutes sufficient contribution to the hobby.  LOL.  Number of posts? Quality of posts?  Participation as an author/ former employee of TSR?  Amount of rares squirreled away?  Total Cash spent?  Best troll?  Best Poetry, Worst Poetry, Best Collection Photo, most Facebook Friends or even, least amount of respect shown others on the site?

50 sounds good.

70 sounds good.

75 sounds good.

90 sounds good.

I am glad more people will get someone they want... and I bet if there are only a few people left on the wait list they will get them too when a few don't pay up.

And, do we have anyone here who works in a medical lab?  We could each get a little plastic bottle and fill it with blood and urine... dip in an old fashioned steel point pin.... and each deface an old piece of TSR letterhead by writing a contract agreeing to have the print buried with us when we die (or cremated) less we be subject to the ravages of 1,000 well endowed demons if we put it on ebay.

Oh crap, that won't work.  I bet a couple of people will enjoy being ravaged and will miss it once the good times are done.

Alas, we can't predict the future and we can't stop people from selling them, but it does appear that most people here will enjoy owning one, at least for a while.  But, is it really... til death do us part over a collectible that we enjoy?

Great questions.
1. These are numbered and signed prints by Erol Otus.  The numbers are not randomly assigned.  Toward the bottom of page 25 of this thread I said a number of things including this:

benjoshua wrote:No one can choose who gets their spot in the Nifty Fifty List if they drop out. The Nifty Fifty get print numbers roughly according to where their name is on the list. Numbers could shift slightly based on people dropping out or other factors. Any other option to select who gets what print number takes time and energy that the committee has to supervise or execute, and the committee doesn't want that. There is an extremely low chance we will change our mind on this matter.

Of course, now the print numbers correspond to the Suave Seventy List.

2. Seventy was picked by the committee and discussed at GREAT length. I will not elaborate on who voted for or was in favor of what and when.  I will say that one of our primary concerns is printing prints that have no Acaeum buyer.  We did not want to print too many.  Having a short wait list is optimal to accommodate those who might drop out.

We also discussed at length those who are "Acaeum buyers" and those who are not.  We decided to stick with the current list and not pick and choose participants based on any additional criteria.

All of the above, naturally.  Like any good printing variant discussion, you should do a long-winded point-by-point synopsis. :P

If you really wanted to stoke the fires, you'd ask "Hey, who gets that rough draft scribbly thingie?  I bet it'll be priceless!"  So, don't do that.

WOOT!  I made the list!   :D  I haven't checked in for a while, but somewhere along the way a couple people must have dropped out, because I used to be second on the wait list and this one has me at #50.  I'm very glad to see that the number has been increased to seventy, and more people will get the chance to obtain a print.

I meant...

Relax.
Enjoy.
Cool, more people get what they want.
I hope they all find good homes.
I hope no one has to sell one for necessities.
If someone sells one, I hope they get a ton of money for it!
Let's not argue quite so much, please.

I've changed my username as well since originally signing up on the wait list. I was "zhowar" (#66 on the list), now Zenopus76.
