There is talk over at Dragonsfoot about a B/X screen. I have not followed it too much.

Either would be cool... Bu the B/X might even be worth having one of the classic artists do an illus... It would be a hot item.

I agree 100%. The only problem is cost. I am very small time and while I can shell out the bucks for a color cover, I would most likely lose my ass on the actual product.

If my volume ever increases to a level where I can use an old school artist and not lose money, I am in.

And as a disclaimer. I am not in this to make money. But I also have no desire to lose money, either. I have three kids going to college starting in four years...

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

I have been stalking The Thing in the Valley since it was first announced.

I tried to buy it at one point, but it was not yet available for order.

Then, when it comes out, I am away for a couple of days.

Now I'm double anxious to get one.  :D

I suspect that a few people bought multiple copies for just such an occasion.  Don't get too upset over it.

Regading the limted nature of the first print.

Without getting too lengthy...I had to make a decision on exactly how many hard copies I was going to print. I settled on 100 copies for two reasons. I had no idea if I would sell 10 let alone 100. Honestly, I had no clue. I also could not justify spending a bunch of money only to have a couple cases of module sitting in my basement for the next 50 years. And secondly, cost. I know that ties into the first, but how much money do you lay out? Dropping a couple grand with no clue if I can recoup it would be moronic.

So it came down to a limited test run. I figured 100 copies would be ample coverage considering I had done very little in the way of marketing. My mistake. Also, 100 seemed like a logical number if I was going to limit something. At 100 copies I thought it would take quite some time sell them all. Again, what a shock that they went literally over night.

One thing I want to make very plain. I did not limit the copies because I thought it would make the module and instant collectable. I am not that vain. That was never my intention or thought.

If anyone thought that Bill, then they are an arse...  :?

I'd agree, 100 seems a logical first print number on such a venture. Typically, I'd guess there are 20-30 regular posters on these forums, so I'd do the same and was as surprised (but also pleased for you) that they sold out so quickly.

To be honest, it never occured to me that anyone would be buying more than one copy (my 2nd is for another member here) so if I was in your position, I'd be as shocked and pleased they went overnight!  :)

I wish to apologize for being childish up above.

The second prints will be collectors items in themselves.

The point is to support Bill's publishing effort after all.   :)

The module looks really good!

Now that you will be a known author (or at least up-and-comming...), you could now make a LIMITED EDITION gold-foil version of your module. Print up 20 copies of it, and give them all to me. I can sell them one at a time for like $1200 each... Why have a PotVQ when you can a Bill Barsh LE.

p.s. I'll split the money with 'ya...

I got mine last night and I have to tell you, I'm impressed.  I only had time to fip through and read a few of the first pages but I'm already working on who I can get involved to play this adventure.  Pregen characters are an added bonus if you are dealing with a group not familiar with the system so thank you Bill for that added bit of detail.  The interior artwork (which is generous throughout the module) is beautiful.  Sorry if this isn't to coherent but I'm still sleepy and getting ready for work.

Keep an eye on your mailboxes for your Thing in the Valley.

Thank for the chance to order a copy, Bill!

I am really looking forward to seeing it!

Edit:  I get names wrong all the time.  Sorry.

The Pacesetter Games page says, "Second Printing Available Nov. 6, 2009".  However, the PayPay button does not work at the time of this post.

Is the second printing an open-ended print run?  And is it available now?

Received my copies yesterday.  Have spent a wonder day reading this module from Bill.  I'm not going to write about the storyline as I do not want to ruin anyone's reading enjoyment.  "The Thing in the Valley" has an eye-popping bright yellow cover.  Cover art is a black and white drawing of a somewhat gruesome figure with a very large sword.  Maps and "blueprints" are professionally done.  The mod sports a two-column layout which allows for a larger font to be used.  It is a simple but quite effective layout.  Descriptions of magical items are bold and italicized give the module that old school feel.

Now let's talk about the art.  It's stunning!!  All the art is in black and white with the exception of the Pacesetter Games logo.  I count no less than sixteen examples in the mod.  There is one piece, however, that is just sublime.  On page 12 is a drawing of a farm house by David White.  The detail and the shading is beyond my ability to describe.  A truely wonder piece.  All the pieces contribute a dark feel to the mod.  My congrats to the artist's Brian Nagata, David White, and Kevin Mayle.

As I said, I'm not going to go into detail in-regards to the storyline.  Suffice to say, Bill presents a smooth flowing mystery adventure.  All detail that a DM would need is presented in a simple, concise, easy to understand format.

Recommendations:  a heavier gauge cardstock, trim the leading edge of the booklet (the printer should have done this for free).  Other than those two very minor recommendations this is an exceptional module.

Bill's clients are collectors; and collectors like quality.  This could have been a one-and-done kind of thing.  However, Bill's attention to presenting an "old school" adventure was superb.  Pacesetter Games & Simulations has busted out of the gate and is looking good.

The back cover lists two more adventures to be published in December of this year and three in 2010.  Bill - can I send the money now?!

Martin

Just a quick little note. I haven't received my copies yet from Bill but I'm assuming if I'm getting credit for the artwork (Brian Nagata), then this should be corrected to show my brother Nathan Nada as the correct artist.
