yeah.... no one is going to Frankenstein those empty box sets for much profit.

The reason those boxes are empty is because he sold the contents as seperate items.

They made him a lot more money than selling the complete box sets would have.

I should have done that with my extra Box Set a month ago.

It sold for just $90.

I probably could have made $125-150 (More or less) from selling the individual modules and ther stuff seperately.

If you ask many re-sellers who have run through a lot of those, they almost all say the same thing.

If the shrink is gone, sell the contents in seperate listings, and then sell the box.

I'll say one thing, the boxes are nice for storing stuff like modules, magazines, etc. I have a few of them lying around and I used them for this all the time.

I've just been having a look at these and have asked the guy how much to ship to the UK.. I guess a fair bit which may make them impractical...

quite fancy a couple of those boxes for my Imagine, RPGA & GM mags!

It does seem surprising there are so many empty boxes around (having just had a few minutes to look) actually having had a look at the price of a complete set??

Do they fetch enough for the component parts to justify breaking them?

I've been using them for that, too. Also, I recently bought a bunch of the slipcases that came with the "combined" versions of the 3e and 3.5 core books; they make great (and reasonably attractive) storage for Dragons and modules.

Yes, Badmike made that argument somewhere else awhile back, and I believe he's right. Strange, but likely true.

Aneoth/Gnat proved the point for me awhile back. He got $90 for a complete box; I would have parted it out for around $140 at minimum, and got to keep the nifty box for storage or resale. Yes it makes no sense. :roll:

And it would seem to mean the complete boxes should be worth a lot more since there are less and less of them....but the item has been around 10 years now and a complete version hasn't gone up in value an iota. Weird.

This is truly sad... First the box set is denuded by rending the shrink from its bones. Then the contents are sold individually for more than the box set can be purchased for online. Thankfully, this is not the fate of all box sets, but considering it is a collection of different items and not a campaign set, I guess it makes some bizarre kind of sense. :cry:

I don't think any of the other items compare to the price of L3. But L3 often sells for the same price as buying the whole set $90ish. The other modules can then be sold for about $10 each.
