I've got one there too, Allan, just as a backup in case I don't get anything on the post Superbowl Monday Surge. To tell the truth I am a little nervous about one less hotel (Courtyard Marriott) not being there this year, since it was tough to get rooms last year even with that one open. Hopefully I can find something closer...if so, I may hold the Embassy Suites reservation if one of our foreign visitors wishes to stay downtown and can't find a room.

fwiw guys, i dont think there is any point contemplating eating breakfast anywhere else. i was most impressed with that place. superb food and friendly service.

best damn omelette i have had in years and i will be most likely having that again. was so filling i didnt need lunch

though that was prb because i sat in utter astonishment at the half-a-cow mike was eating each morning

Hello,

Just wanted to confirm to you all that the Red Eye Cafe is still in operation. Breakfast looks good, once again, for Gencon 2008.

Now to find a place for the Acauem Meet and Greet dinner.

To those who have not gotten reservations for a hotel yet, I would do so immediately as Gencon is the largest Conference of the year for Indy. With one less hotel in the mix, reservations could come at a premium or not at all to those who wait.

Hehehe! I forgot that "biscuits" across the pond are different than biscuits here. The biscuits I am referring to are these:

Made with flour, baking powder, a little butter or shortening, salt, and milk. Cream or sausage gravy poured over the top with a little pepper and you got yourself a fine breakfast.

I actually found some pretty nice deals still available in different parts of the city, still downtown, but not near the convention center. If you don't mind driving a couple miles every morning and paying for parking, there are still some good deals available at the Marriott by the canal, the Hilton and a few other places. Some places still close if you don't mind paying $300-$400 a night

I'm still hoping something will be available when the hotel frenzy starts next Monday; as long as you get a room with a Kingsize bed (not two smaller beds) you should be ok. For some reason a lot of gamers don't want to bunk up together in the same bed, figure that.....

Also, Martin still has rooms in his house available I believe. The bathroom, extra bedroom, and kitchen have been taken, leaving the hall closet, attic and back porch for lease at $500 a night. Get them while you can!!!! :lol:

You don't know what you are missing Al. Biscuits and gravy is one of the dishes that made this country great. It was eaten by the settlers and cowboys alike. Takes very few ingredients and time to make and is very tasty. Sometimes I like to hum a few bars of "America the Beautiful" right before eating a big ol' plate of biscuits and gravy just to remind me of how my ancestors lived when they came to this land from the Old World.

If it weren't for them I might be eating haggis, black pudding, or God-forbid....beans for breakfast! That would be downright nauseating!

I'm now seriously impressed by the fortitude it took the settlers of this great land to go on knowing they had no bacon cheeseburgers to get them going each morning. Just imagine if Washington's troops had been able to chow down on bacon cheeseburgers with say a some grilled onions and a little guacamole on the side...add in some fresh cut home fries (chips to you heathens across the pond)...and not only would they have wrapped up that war in about half the time, we would have taken all of Canada also. Although who would want it, it's all ice and snow and some of them speak French.....!

I hear the trunk space is going for $100 a night...get it while you can. If you have a long extension cord you can plug in the coffee maker to the garage outlet....

Is there anywhere to camp around Indy? Obviously it would not be too close to the actual event, what with it being all inside the city. But, if there are campgrounds not too terribly far away, with a decent curfew (or none at all), then I may be able to convince my fiancÃ©e to come. Of course, this would propose the security question, so maybe not...

Not worth staying in a hotel there, though. Rooms are small, uncomfortable, and a rip-off.
