Ironically, the sale the hats were advertising would seem quite the bargain, yet old pros like myself and Al couldn't find a single thing to buy at "Buy one, get three free".  That blows my mind!  It's not like I don't buy the occasional 3rd ed product if it looks really cool...just that there is so much crap out there it's not odd that I could find nothing I needed or wanted out of an entire booth full of product.

If I didn't get to bid I prolly wouldn't volunteer. Same applies to every other volunteer, Troll & Toad dudes included.

T&T sells for strasopheric prices. So what? That's their business. You and I don't buy from 'em; we know what the stuff's worth. The fact remains that SOMEbody buys from 'em... so it works as a business. ::shrug::

I am happy that my old friend Paul (Egor) is doing so well now that folks have T&T for price comparisons. ;>

Auctioneers and volunteers did bid on auction items...that was stated during the auction, I didn't have a problem with that.  

I thought T&T bidding was a bit odd looking, but it didn't influence anything I spent.  I would however tell the head of T&T next time not to bid himself, but get a volunteer or employee, I know it's illogical but I thought it looked a bit unseemly to see the owner of the auction company in the front bidding on the stuff (IIRC he only did it Thursday night). If some nameless minion had been doing the bidding, I would never have known a thing and been blissfully ignorant. Frank, you and Tim and the rest were volunteers and hired guns, not the head of the auctioning body.  As I said, it didn't influence anything I spent, but it did look a bit odd.

Egor and wife were the nicest people....glad to have met them!

As funny as Tim was, the auctioneer named Jason was absolutely hilarious.  A bunch of us were commenting that he talked and looked a lot like Tom Green.  At one point he was describing the Call of Cthulhu adventure Beyond the Mountains of Madness and he was just going on and on about just how huge it was.  When I won the auction he asked me if I was going to actually play the adventure.  I told him "Heck yeah I'm going to play it."

It might take me ten years to finish it though.

Thanks for the correction Shawn.  I think I got his name mixed up a couple of times during the auction as well.  I believe Al or Mike corrected me at least once then too.  

The guy is really funny...he ought to do stand up.  He could tell jokes about people who play D&D.  Tons of usable material there.  Hell I could come up with at least ten jokes about "gamer funk" by myself.

You're not far off. Josh is a gamer with varied interests, was a major collector (tho he just liquidated a lot of his rares at GenCon), and has also performed in a comedy troupe in Chicago. May still be doing so, I haven't asked lately.

And I fully agree; Josh was hot this year.
So was Tim; pretty kewl how fast he picks things up.

Certain other auctioneers were the opposite. So it goes. :/

I did say 'on the surface' as I wasn't there and was looking for further info.  With regard to you bidding Frank one question.  Are you bidding on an item at the same time you are running the auction for the item (refer to Mike's post)?  

Do I believe T&T are trying to shill auctions? No.  Do I think the company running the auctions needs to be seen to be above reproach? Yes.

You know I am really looking forward to meeting you (and the rest of the Acaeum) when I make it back State side.  Indeed we do know what stuff is worth.  Personally, Al and Mike's Giant Shrew Adventure(tm) is worth far more to me than a Tamo, Fazzle and B3 put together.

The Giant Killer Shrew Tegel Manor is not in my care due to the gracious generosity of Killjoy.  It will stay in my care.  But when you do get state side and come to a Gencon I will carefully bring it out for all to see.  After all, this The Giant Killer Shrew Tegel Manor is now a one-of-a-kind item.

I also must exercise great responsibility in showing this item, as the Killer Shrew may leap out of the mod and bite you in the nuts.
