mmmm I'm skeptical. The online tool seems a little well... gratuetous to me. But then, i've never been in a D&D game that's ever used the grid system anyway.
Character generator could be useful though, I've always foudn D&D character gen a bit pointlessly arduous.

Ahhh what is D&D without such sillyness? It's like skittle and cookie tokens being a neccisary part of Magic the gathering. "how can I tell that cookie is tapped?" *takes a bite out of it "there! bite up, untapped!"

If I had to guess, I'd say it will be much the same rules-wise as 3Eech. I imagine the online component is where they will focus development. They want all the little kiddies parked at their computers playing (what they call) D&D with people all over the world. It's their way of trying to milk the fascination with World of Borecraft.
If I want to do that, I hop on my Neverwinter server.
There are times I think all of us here are of the same mindset as the "scientists" who claim global warming doesn't exist. Roleplaying is dead. Gaming has taken its place.

I think he's suggesting that we are behind the curb...We don't want to accept the changes to D&D (although I hesitate to refer to the current game by that name) much like the Exxon funded climatologist can't seem to find evidence for a hotter planet.

Hmm, no, I don't have a gambling problem, I'm winning, and winning is not a problem. That's like saying Michael Jordan has a basketball problem, or Def Leppard has an awesomeness problem. So why don't y'all pour some sugar on that?

The thing is, I defintely agree and understand the current D&D (hack, cough) trend towards flashier and more "gaming"-based materials, it is just very hard to accept. It rankles me when it is called roleplaying; it really isn't. I've watched and (shudder) Dmed 3E campaigns, and they are just paper video games. Players from our generation can usually twist and fold them into some semblance of a roleplaying game, but it is very difficult and time-consuming.

I agree with Deadly ... the world has changed. Living in the IT world I understand those changes well. What I don't have time for is poor quality. Maybe it is just that WotC's graphics budgets is limited but the quality of the BeesWax site is shite.

As for building a site which can't handle the expected traffic ... well that is just poor. It's still down by the way ....

Their game servers for Magic go down on a regular basis. It's so bad that there is a thread on the main site titled "is the Server Up?", and it is constantly being posted to. That's fucking pathetic. 99.99% uptime should be a given, with the resources they have. If my network was down as much as theirs, I'd be canned in a heartbeat.
Having said that, I am POSITIVE that their "D&D Online" sojourn will be a fiasco of similar proportions. They will either underfund or underprovision it, and put out pathetic excuses.
Now, you might be saying at this point, "Wow, Deady has a lot of angst towards WotC!" Not true. I have a LOT of angst. It is no different than winning an auction for an item and getting shipped a thrashed item. It is misrepresentation for profit.
