While that sounds great, I would love to quantify those numbers. The MtG hall was the size of Idaho! And then you have the whole cosplay universe...It seems like half the vendors in the dealer hall are selling things that have absolutely nothing to do with gaming. Don't get me wrong, more people at Gen Con is good. But we should not confuse that with more gamers, necessarily. I will say, it did not feel more crowded than last year, so the con does a great job at spreading out the attendees.

There absolutely are a lot of people in costume at Gen Con.  But I'd still guess that most of them are gamers too.  There are other conventions for cosplay.  I think most of those who come to Gen Con come for the games first; getting into costume is secondary.  Yeah, there were a whole bunch of booths with steampunk clothing.  But they were largely empty when I walked by them.  Most of the booths with games, however, were usually crowded.

It certainly is true that Gen Con isn't just roleplaying.  Card games, board games . . . but those are games too, and clearly now a large part of Gen Con.  So I'm happy that they hit a new record, and continue to hope that some day gaming will become as mainstream as comic books now are.

And Bill, I'm glad your kids had such a good time.  Especially at the auction.  Though that may not be a habit you really want to get them started on.

They are actually thin pieces of plastic that slides behind the glass. We just took those and had him sign them at his booth.

The Fazzle is damn near mint. The Overkill is a first print. Uncle Ebeneezer is just plain awesome!


First print of Jagpanzer (which is really cool) and third print MA in way better condition that described.




I bought all this plus next picture in a single lot at the auction for $15.


That is a first print of both Espionage, Champions DM Screen and Champions!!!!! I was shocked when I opened the bundle to find them.


My daughter Anna won the 7th print Greyhawk for $7. We won the first print Greyhawk for $32. The microgame are all in shrink (thanks to burntwire for sending me in the right direction to get them).
