For my money, I'd still rather play Wasteland.

The whole "scaling enemies" thing in both Oblivion and Fallout 3 bothered me a bit. I guess I prefer the D&D model, where, if you are low level and go into a "high level" dungeon, you can kiss your arse goodbye. Conversely, if you are level 20 and decide to clear out a cave of Kobolds, you can pretty much waltz in there like the Hulk and smash those puny pipsqueaks into a pile of goo. I don't like the world scaling around me and making itself more and more dangerous as I level up. Once I level up, I want to go to more dangerous *places*, not have the same places that once were infested with giant rats all of a sudden become the Tomb of Horrors. ;-)

Same here.  Although I think they changed it a bit with Fallout 3 after hearing the complaints people had with Oblivion.  I never played Oblivion but I heard you could beat the game easily if you went through the main quest quickly.  On the flip side it was very difficult to beat it if you were high level.

I already maxed out my character in Fallout 3 and I was walking around the D.C. ruins the other day making my way to The Citadel (I dont like using the "fast walk" ability that takes you right to a place you have already discovered.  Where is the fun in that?).  I heard a couple of explosions and laser fire around the corner and went to investigate.  There were two Super Mutant Overlord's with Laser Gatlings fighting a group of raiders.  After they dispatched the raiders, they turned on me and nearly wiped me out.  I had to run and duck behind some rubble, take several stimpacks, and toss plasma grenades at them to weaken them to the point that I could take them out with my trusty plasma rifle.  I might have used the mini-nuke launcher on them but I dont carry it around much since it is so damn heavy.

But just prior to that I was skulking through the Metro tunnels fighting mole rats and feral ghouls without breaking a sweat.  :)

I found on Oblivion that scaling wasn't so bad. I came across several vampire lairs early on and I had to "run away!" and ended up getting the vampire curse anyway...  :lol:

I'm going to ask something that's basically been asked before, but I'm just surprised people are so brazen.  I bought a collectible card and paid for Priority Mail (it was the only option offered).  It didn't arrive after several days, and I asked when it was shipped.  He said May 11th.  I said it should have arrived.  They tell me it was sent by First Class postage.  I said;

Your auction specifically states Priority Mail.  In fact, I requested First Class Mail and you refused.  No wonder its delivery is delayed.

Hmmm.  Since I paid for Priority Mail, I would like a refund of the difference in what you paid and what I paid for.  Priority Mail is $4.85.  Whatever you paid for postage minus $4.85 is what I'd like refunded.  If you don't want to do it, I'll let eBay/Paypal resolve it if you want, but I'm guessing you'd prefer to handle it.  The ball is in your court.

He said;

Sorry, I don't offer any sort of refunds for shipping. Shipping is as is and I stated in the auction, that I would most likely ship out card(s) in a regular envelope. Shipping includes shipping out card, handling, Paypal fees, ebay fees, etc. I have overpaid sometimes more than $50 for shipping and never complained. The total price for the card you purchased was pretty good. Some sellers do like $1 Buy It Now and $100 shipping and I sometimes bought those kind of auctions and never requested any money back.

EBay states:

Actual shipping cost: This is the amount for shipping the item. It should be what you paid the carrier.

And also states:

Related fees: Things like gas, mileage, time spent at a carrier, employee wages, or eBay and PayPal fees should not be added.

So, once seven days are past since paying, if I open a case against this seller, what will happen?  In your experience, is this a slam dunk case?  Will Paypal refund the postage difference between me and the seller?  Or eBay?  Or will I be required to return the item for a refund?  Or does this case go on and on with little happening?   :?:

It is a bit of a crapshoot, but you probably end up negging the bastard regardless of the outcome from paypal at this point.

The seller is an idiot and a petty thief. That $4.50 he made ripping you off on shipping isn't worth the neg and the low DSA score he is going to get (and with luck paypal will refund you the amount he ripped you off.

Since this is clearly a mistake by the seller, I would ask for the difference back then I would definitely neg him.  What he has done by saying he is shipping one method, charging more then shipping a lesser method and pocketing the money is fraud - its a small amount but chances are if he did it to you, he probably does it for all his auctions.

I would put up the neg.

I'd agree. I've recently started selling a few items and haven't gotten up to speed on the shipping costs, but generally based them on similar items for sale or weighed them and checked the P.O website.

However, a couple of items turned out to be £2+ cheaper to ship than I charged. But I made the refund to the buyer before the item arrived with them and explained what had happened.

This guy is just trying to make a quick buck in a bad way.

Yeah, but I did ask for the difference, and he basically said I am re-couping eBay/Paypal fees and everybody does it.  What I am sensing here is that I am not getting back the difference from eBay or Paypal.  Or am I missing something?  As I think about all the transactions I've ever heard about or experienced, I don't ever recall eBay/Paypal refunding a partial amount.  It's either everything or nothing, right?  :?:

In my opinion, the only thing the seller did wrong is not ship the item via Priority Mail, as he stated he would in the auction. Given this, he should indeed offer you a refund of the difference in shipping costs.

I occasionally sell things on eBay, but not often enough to keep up with shipping costs, so what I generally do is offer a flat rate for Priority Mail, which is usually just a guess by me on what it is going to cost me. Sometimes I overestimate, sometimes underestimate, but I always ship via the method I said that I would use. The flat rate is stated clearly in the auction text. If a seller states clearly that he is going to charge a certain amount for shipping, then the buyer has no cause to complain if the actual shipping costs are less than the stated amount, as long as the seller ships via the method he said he would, packs the items well, etc. If you don't like the shipping rate, then don't buy or bid on the item.

But I did ask, and he refused.  The thing I want to know is whether eBay or Paypal partially refunds in situations like this.  I've never heard of it.  Has anyone?  :?:

No. The closest I've come in a situation like that (or any other dispute in which I was the buyer, for that matter), is for PayPal to force the seller to accept a return for a refund of the entire purchase price with shipping costs being my responsibility. I think this is just a stock response that allows them to avoid actually judging the merits of any claim.

Today is my brother's birthday.  Since we used to play D&D together about 25-30 years ago, I figured I'd give him a couple of my old school books - just to remind him of the "good old days."

I opted for a Monster Manual and module D1.

As I'm wrapping them this morning, however, I'm somewhat pained at giving up a couple pieces of my collection.  (I have two copies of the MM, but only one copy of D1).

Is that selfish, or what, to feel a twinge of regret at giving a gift to my own brother?   8O

Oh, yes, I agree with you about this seller. Neg him, for sure.

Hmmm.  Think about it a different way - perhaps it is a little bit sad that so many of the gifts which we do give to our friends, relatives and loved ones are either so lacking in meaning or value (to us), that we do not notice any twinges in their purchase or passing.   That is, I think it is good to give your brother a gift that you value enough to miss - it shows how much you care.  :D

It's been a little while since this happened to me, but there is a way to file the paypal dispute. I think you have to open the dispute (a silly back and forth written exchange with the seller), but you don't have to wait for the seller to reply (since he already has). Just immediately elevate it to a claim. There's a choice for "not as described", and then a specific option towards the bottom for a partial refund that you're asking.

Are you really willing to go through all that trouble over a couple of bucks? Did you ever receive the item? Was it in the condition described? The seller *should* refund you the difference between $4.85 (Priority Mail) minus what he actually spent on first class postage. If he doesn't (and it seems he isn't going to), just neg him and be done with it, is my advice.
