mbassoc2003 wrote:I'm sorry. I fail to see how Israel plays a part in the oil equation. And I don't see why Jewish people have a right to their own country (even if it was promised to them by God). Why the hell can't they live on the planet like every other religeon and race? Or is it the 'Hitler tried to kill us, so now we can't trust anyone' thing?

There are plenty of sources of oil all over the globe, and if a bunch of arabs want to fight over a piece of turf in the middle east that the israelis now claim was given to them by God, then who the hell are we to get in on the act? Again, why is it anything to do with the UK or America what or who fights over what piece of land in the middle east. And let's face it, the Israelis have no more claim to that piece of land than say the Egyptians, Syrians, Iraqis, or Italians for that matter. This 'it was promised to us by God' is a heap of bullcrap. That stretch of land has been fought over for millenia, and no one population has any more claim to it than any other. If it weren't for 'western' involvement, there would be stability in the middle east, and 'israel' would be part of some other country.

Yet again, we see the meddling of the US and UK in the matters of other countries, and we do nothing but fuck them up. After we bleed them dry that is.

As for Milf's question (Sorry TheMilford, that one's gonna stick  :D ), the reason the US are in Afganistan and Iraq is because they are training and expanding their military. How better to develop weaponry and train soldiers to kill locals than to have an actual conflict. That's what Vietnam was all about, and that's what Afganistan is all about. It's keeping people in jobs. People need to manufacture clothing and equipment, people are needed to train the kids to go and do the dirty thing, and more kids are need to replace the dead ones. So it's all good. It keeps the economy ticking over and people earn big bucks out of war. Obviously not the schmucks with the guns, but then if they were intelligent, they'd not be there in the first place. It's a natural selection thing.

i'm sorry is there a point? i'm from a family that's fought in the army for 7 generations. it's all about power .. it's not rocket science. power may be based on natural resources (oil) so i don't understand the objections to a military campaign based on trying to secure oil. In fact as a motive it's a no-brainer.

What gets me is idiots trying to cast the oppo as evil. As if we're involved in some sort of  Hollywood sci-fi flick. Are the Iraqis evil - of course not. Is it in our politic0-military interest to invade. Maybe so. OK then.

Just don't sell me the NS.,

do they think we're stupid?

Great points all around.

Even our involvement in WWII can be traced to power over resources in the pacific rim and elsewhere.

The point is, in the west we are supposed to be 'civilised' countries and we have all signed up to agreements that we won't just go invade weaker countries because we want their land or resources. But when it comes down to it and American wants to invade Iraq, then fuck anything they ever signed up to.

And... and this is the thing most TV watching, propaganda spoon fed people cannot quite grasp... regardless of how many generations of a people fight for bits of land, and regardless of how many people pay how many other people for bits of real estate, the land and oil never goes anywhere. It remains in the same place. Regardless of who is standing on top of the ground and who is operating the machinery, the resource remains where it is, and remains usable. Whether the Kuwaitis, Iraqis, Egyptians, Saudies, Australians, French, Swiss, Russians or Americans pump the stuff from the soil, it has absolutely no impact on the over all global economic market. The price of oil still fluctuates. You still drive your car and pay the same varying prices for your gas.

So you can send 7 generations to fight in jungles and it never amounts to a hill or beans, and it never contributes one ounce to the progression of the society or culture you live in. It's one of those dead end service jobs that merely functions and does not move society forward. There are people who can say the same thing about working for WalMart or flipping burgers.

Most people cannot see past the propaganda and media fed picture of the world around them. They can't see the whole picture. Until you break the general american mindset (replace here with any chosen country), you cannot have stability in any endeavour whatsoever.

What are the odds of America voting a woman into the White House?
Still, I suppose she might get some publicity and a cushy job in corporate America for her troubles.
