I was getting the Bears AND 4 1/2 points, and all they needed to do was to stop the #$%^& 2-point conversion.

Defeat snatched from the jaws of Victory...

It may seem like you just met yesterday because he has sucked in terms of FFB up until now......?

A banner year for Hester would be for him to be relevant at all.

Cutler didn't have a good first half.

Both teams struggled not to win.  Green Bay struggled just a tiny bit less than Chicago, so they were forced to take the victory...grudgingly.

I was annoyed with the commentators talking about #78 for the Packers failing to block Ogunlaye (sp?).  #78 was doing fine blocking Ogunlaye - who was not playing the run at all.  All Green Bay needed to to was 1) Have Rogers step up behind his blockes or 2) Run or pass inside of Ogunlaye.  They never did really adjust.

NFL teams do puzzling things:

Why did Green Bay forget that Greg Jennings existed between the first series of the game and the last part of the 4th quarter?  Didn't use their best receiver at all in between.

Why did St. Louis forget that Steven Jackson is their best receiver.  He had exactly 0 catches against Seattle.  It was like they were trying to lose.

Green Bay should have had a shit load more points in that game, Rodgers was the reason they didn't due to what Mark said.  All he had to do was step up into the pocket some more, but unfortunately it'll be blamed on #78.

Now I just have to hope Moss tonight goes wild compared to Owens.

Hester was one of the top Fantasy scorer in the Acaeum League two years ago...the year he had 7 TD runbacks. Remember, that league includes return yardage...Hester was a god.  He regularly outscored Brady, Peterson, whoever.  I think he was averaging almost 20 pts a game....incredible.

Last year he had 0 runbacks since teams started kicking away from him.  Also, the Bears just started playing him at WR, where he would ocassionally flash his speed and ability, but his WR duties took him away from his kick returning.

This year, Hester is the #1 WR for the Bears, and showed his speed in the one TD he had last night, plus the two passes thrown to him on the line of scrimmage were he got first downs by juking the defender. To top it off, the Bears now have Maining on the other side also returning kicks, and he's one of the best in the league.  So teams will HAVE to kick to either Hester or Maining, pick your poison. I predict Hester will have a couple of KR TDs this year after his drought last year as he will get a chance to return.

The Bears will be behind a lot this year. Hester will have a huge year..I'm thinking 80 balls, 1200 yds, 10 TDs (combined at WR and KR).  Should be in the top 15-20 pts scored in the Acaeum fantasy league.

I had not realized that return yardage counted.  In standard fantasy formats runback yards would not count and a touchdown on a runback would count toward the defense/special teams total...not the individual.

If runback yardage counts...yes, I can see Hester as a star.

That's one of the reasons I prefer Mike's Luddite league. When I was in the Acaeum league a couple of years ago, the teams were filled with no-name kick returners. Apart from Hester, there were quite a few other return specialists that were in the top 20 point scorers. I'm not saying it's wrong to score that way... it's just a personal preference that I'd rather draft a team of offensive players and have all the defense/special teams done as a group rather than on individual players.

As a Bears fan, it was hard going watching yesterday's game. I think they did a pretty good job covering Jennings most of the game, until the last quarter when he was one on one with Vasher. Cutler was clearly off, he seemed to expect his receivers to run one way and they continually went the other.

I think there are quite a few people in both leagues who are hoping for a result today. Me, I'm hoping Oakland stay in the game and the Chargers have to play LT for four quarters, leaving Sproles on the bench.

Mike

LOL, that's funny because while I enjoy the Luddite league, I also enjoy the Acaeum League precisely BECAUSE it has a somewhat out of the ordinary scoring system.  I play in a ton of league's that score like my (Luddite) league...it's fun to play in a league where the scoring is different (points for return yardage, no negs for INTs, fumbles or missed kicks, etc). In almost every other league, if you don't get AP or one of the "premier" players in the league you are usually screwed...in Avurax's league, you can save your season with a grab at a Devin Hester, Josh Cribbs or Desean Jackson.  While traditional fantasy leagues have their allure, I also like a little oddball variety!

As for the Bears, their offense should be ok (without Urlacher, I fear for their defense). Cutler clearly had jitters (all four of those Ints should NOT have been thrown) and Forte never got into a groove. Despite all that, they win if #1 the Deep Snapper of all people doesn't try to call a play on his own, and #2 one of the best WRs in the league isn't left wide open on an essential play.

Cutler tried too hard.

The receivers did not try hard enough.

The bears secondary is questionable.

With Urlacher out for the season, and Linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa and cornerback Trumaine McBride hurt, the defense will not recover against Pittsburgh next week.

All they had to do was to stop the 2-point conversion (did I mention that I was getting 4 1/2 points?  :D ).

My money is on Pittsburgh next week.

Any Cowboys fans out there with a big smile on their face looking at Romo's line this Sunday (353 yds, his best ever, 3 TDs, no INTs) and TO's line in Buffalo? (2 catches for 46 yds).  I hope all you Bills fans are enjoying your first post game TO loss where he isn't thrown to enough....if it isn't tiring you out now, it will be by Game #16......

(Note that I still believe Owens has something in the tank and can contribute....just that in his mind he's not and never will be a #2 WR, and will begin to point that out if the Bills don't start winning AND throwing the ball his way much more every game....)

Against the Titans it looks like Willie Parker had nothing in the tank. If he doesn't blow it up vs an Urlacher-less Bears defense, I'd begin the Rashard Mendenhall watch, and wonder if Big Ben can win enough games in the air for the Steelers to go to the playoffs this year.  Their running game sure looked mighty ordinary against a Titan's team begging to lose last week.

As for the Bears, my money is still on Cutler. He needs to chill out, he was obviously forcing the ball on many occasions, and ignored his most experienced and best pass catcher (Olsen) the entire game.  And unless Forte endures a sophomore slump, he won't have many games like that all season.  But yeh, I'd worry a lot about the defense, if the Bears have to outscore teams, Cutler could be forcing a lot of passes to his young WR corps, and may lead the league in INTs.

To be fair, on many of the passing plays in the first half the Patriots had double coverage on TO. After some adjustments in the second half the field seemed to open up a bit more for him.

That last two minutes of the game was pretty wild though and the Patriots win seemed to be more good luck than good management.

Should be an interesting season for New England with all of their new players still getting settled in.

If both quarterbacks stay healthy enough to play at least 14 games, you will see Orton out-perform Culter.

Orton played his college ball here at Purdue.  I've gotten to "know" him very well and while I liked him very much in the college game and thought he would be a great NFL quarterback, he's as dumb as a box of rocks.  He does not have the intellect to run an NFL offense.

Orton has much better weapons at his disposal, but the shaky running game (Knowshon? Buckhalter? Jordan?) and his horrible start (without that one prayer at the end of the game that added 80 yds and a TD to his stats, he had 156 yds with no TDs) has to make Broncos fans nervous. The one plus in his favor is that his schedule is far easier than Cutlers, facing the likes of the Been-gals and Brownies instead of the Packers, Vikings and the like.

LOL...I couldn't help thinking about this game a couple of years ago, where the Cowboys were down by 8 in the last two minutes, and won by scoring nine pts in the last 20 seconds.  After Romo had thrown five picks in the game, he hit a late TD, the Cowboys get the onside kick, and Folk kicks a FG as time expires. The Bills just beg to lose these sort of games.  That franchise is cursed.
