However, for my wife and I, it was just above average. It was certainly creative and unique in a day and age where so many movies are remakes or sequels or similar to other movies. If you have a child or young teen, I'd certainly take them to see the movie as it does such a good job of talking about a number of different emotions children/teens feel and could give them a handle, or a way to talk about, these things which most people can't, or don't, discuss. Of course, its presentation of emotions is simplistic in some ways but not far off in many ways. One of its main lessons appears to be honoring the value and necessity of sadness. We saw the movie in 3-D, which was a waste of money. There are no places where that presentation adds to the movie in my opinion. The previews (at Carmike Cinemas) were all of kid's movies which disappointed me but makes sense. Speaking of Carmike Cinemas, I was sorely disappointed with how many commercials were shown prior to the movie but after the stated show time. I do not mind commercials prior to the show time, but once the stated show time has passed, it's time for the previews and movie. I recommend seeing the movie at a later hour to avoid the presence of other children who.....act like children. There is probably a way to turn the basic concept into an adventure. Maybe a clerical quest to enter some god's head in the outer planes and adjust/fight/trick his emotions while trying to track down a lost memory. I don't know exactly how all that would work, but in a day and age with so many re-treads, a little originality is refreshing.

I put in a little blurb about how D&D really inspired me as a kid in the 80s, and included a call to action to visit the Gygax Memorial Fund website to make contributions. I also pledged to make a $2.00 donation to the Fund for every print sold.Next, I went to the fund site myself and made a $2.00 donation to retroactively cover a print I sold at Heroicon in May.Almost exactly 24 hours later, I got a cease and desist letter from the Fund's attorney. My first ever!Excerpt: "The Fund recognizes and appreciates that Gary Gygax had a positive and powerful influence on many people and that they wish to honor his legacy and express their appreciation for his significant contributions to field of role playing games. However, the Fund has chosen to restrict how its name is used in connection with the promotion of commercial goods. As you may or may not know, there are strict laws (commercial coventurer laws) in many states that are invoked when there is an offer indicating that the sale of a product or service will benefit a charitable organization such as the Fund.Accordingly, we must insist that you not refer to the Print as the "Gygax Memorial Print" and that you not promote sales of the Print by indicating that donations will be made to the Fund. We will expect that you will promptly modify the Site to address this."A friendly email from the organizers would have sufficed, but why not say it with lawyers? But it's their prerogative and I can understand them wanting to protect the name. Anyway, I'm posting this as fair warning to any contributing artists. It looks like Eek's well-intentioned book wouldn't have had any legs even if it had come to fruition. The road to hell is paved with good intentions!
