Waitaminute...did they change the day of the charity auction?  Last year I thought the charity auction was on Saturday night and the super-rares were on Friday night?

From the sounds of it Thursday is definitely when most people are looking for first dibs at some good smaller items in the bins/stalls(?)

Does anyone have an idea what might be coming up in the auctions yet, or is it a bit too far off? (any tit-bits to lure us with yet Frank?)

Also when are the best auctions scheduled for - I'm trying to start to work out a budget/plan of attack.

Tit-bits???  I didnt see any of those last year.  I will definitely be on the lookout for those.

Best auctions are early in the morning Brendon.  Dont worry about waking me up either.  I always go for the really cheap stuff that they have on Friday and Saturday night.

Last year they divided up the rares for two nights, Friday and Saturday.  Any Acaeum member who isn't there for the entire time should turn in his Acaeum ID and license....

About a decade ago, when the collectibles were on Saturday night, I realized that the heavy hitters were sitting on their money all thru Fri/Sat. Plus we started getting a LOT mroe collectibles, so much so that they demanded more time.

I thus started the Friday Night Supers -- the best/rarest collectibles in the entire 11,000+ piece auction -- and it worked great. Any duplicates, runners-up, etc. got put into a Saturday Night collectibles run, which also worked great.

Nowadays there are so many semi-collectibles (print-run monochromes, for example) that we run those on Thursday night, along with some less-than-top-quality white boxes and non-TSR RPG rares (tho some of the latter might otherwise qualify for the Fri/Sat sessions).

So there's a lot of really good stuff up EVERY night.
But Friday night is where the Ultras appear, especially in the Finale.
I'm bringing one item for the Finale. I'll tell ya when the time is nearer.

My Auction Strategy:

When in direct bidding war with British Acaeum members I will:
    1) remind them who WON that other war some 200 years ago.
    2) offer them copious amounts of BEER
When in direct bidding war with Canadian Acaeum members:
    1) explain to them that no one cares about hockey
    2) sing the "lumberjack" song
    3) offer them copious amounts of BEER
When in direct bidding war with Aussie Acaeum members:
    1)  first assess the chance that they brought one of the continents many poisonious man-killing critters with them:
            A) if I think they did bring one of the nasty creatures:  give up
            B) if I think they did not:  offer copious amounts of BEER
When in direct bidding war with fellow American Acaeum members:
     1) get Alan to pull their hands down
     2) if it is Stratochamp:  give up
     3) if they should be anyone of the many Texans:  tell that I would allow their "wonderful" state to actually succede from the Union of the United States if they would simply give up.
     4) if it is Badmike:  offer case of Redeye Cafe Bacon Cheeseburgers
     5) offer copious amounts of BEER
When in direct bidding war with anyone NOT an Aceaum member:
     1) expect other Acaeum members to "take care of the situation"

If all else fails:  slip Frank a fifty "for an order of a dozen snickerdoddle cookies"

Last year I didn't go too heavily into the bidding until Saturday evening because I didn't know, with a few exceptions, what noteworthy items might be coming later.  Would it be possible to get a preview/inspection session this year?

Well if the right stuff is there I will be in the bidding.  (more of those manuscripts would be nice) :)

It would be cool to see some of the weird stuff there (small press stuff).

I am really looking forward to meeting al you guys, gaming and blowing some cash on paper objects :D

Should be a very memorable year.   :geek:

Sorry, but can't resist adding:

    4) don't mention LOSING that other war around 1812

It wasn't a "TIE" either, whatever your history books might say down there. :)  Too bad Moncalm couldn't have squeezed out a victory before hand ...we'd all be speaking French now.  Dongeons et Dragons anyone???

Cheers!

The rares are usually in a glass display case to the side of the auction stage. Keep checking the case as items are constantly added. Last year they even had a stand with some items behind the case.

BTW: We will be putting several items in the auction this year. Nothing too rare though.
