Killjoy-
Start them off with something simple and fun.  I suggest "Tomb of Horrors."
:P

what do y'all think? any other better alternatives? of course, i am going to run tegel manor at some point - would be poor form if i didnt  :D

I don't know whether you remember, but I was helping a group of teenagers (quadruplets, whose mother has Alzheimer's), and we had a great time playing 1E AD&D.

I settled on U1 as their intro.
The Saltmarsh series appealed to them because they like mysteries;
and appealed to me because I like traps and puzzles as much as I do wandering monsters.
We then transitioned to a Tolkein-style dungeon crawl because they love LOTR, but U1-3 are great intro modules.
Well worth considering if you're looking for an alternative to Hommlet.

I sincerely hope that whatever is (or has been) wrong will right itself for you.  Godspeed to you & yours.
It's the challenges of real life that make D&D such a wonderful distraction.

hey keith

funny you should mention U1...because just last night i was looking at it....its one of my fave adventures to DM.

i was actually swaying using it as a standalone, as i am not overly fussed with U2 and U3....but i think U1 is a blast and can easily lead into other things....so its now U1 and T1.

i was thinking of starting them on U1 and then when the "pirates" get away, they escape to a small place further down the coast called Hommlet, which could then nicely lead into that...kill two birds with one stone etc.

what ya think?

Al

Sounds like a great plan.
You might need to spice up Hommlet a bit depending on the goodies/XP they collect in U1.
And then while in Hommlet they could hear rumors about Tegel Manor, just to whet their appetite ...

Happy Thanksgiving!  Some people like turkey on Thanksgiving, but I'm a ham.  :pig:

We always do both.  One of my uncles will deep fry a turkey that he has injected with cajun spices and butter.  The other uncle brings a huge ham that he bastes with Coca-Cola.  The acid in the cola breaks down the ham and carmelizes the outside.  They are both amazing.

My own meager contributions are a squash casserole (if you've eaten the squash casserole at Boston Market you know what I'm talking about), a batch of walnut cardamom Viennese cookies, and a chocolate hazelnut pie.  :chef:
