3)Yep - I'd be out of the door in a heart beat - and quite right too. Anything else would be showing the kids that being a scrounger and a scumbag is acceptable

Now back to the discussion at hand.
Education - I completely agree, Gyg. You can't blame the teachers. The vast majority work well within a really f'cked up system that has been put in place by beaurocats. You just cannot run any education system based on pandering to the stupid and disruptive offspring of white trash. The system in the UK is that (unless you go private) everyone is educated at the pace of the most stupid person in the class, so that they don't feel so stupid. And everyone, including the teachers, have to help them through their troubled childhood and sort out their behavioural problems, at the expence of compromising the education of everyone else in the class. That happend in every single classroom in every school in the country.

Maybe the stupid kids get shoved off into the military and eventually grow some testicles and learn some form of respect and honour, but I would put it top our friend that he is the exception, and not the norm. The majority spend their lives squaring off the cheeks of their arses watching sky TV, doing the odd days work here and there, claiming all the social benefits they can, smoking, drinking, and complaining about how the government hasn't given them a good enough life.

Our little 'military' friend has completely missed the point of the discussion here.

Aside, there is something to be said for military service. It does teach discipline and order to people, and on the whole, I believe it makes for people to be better parents. Guys learn completely diferent things from military service than their wives do, but wives of military personell learn to deal with the day to day life of bringing up kids in a way that is abscent in civi street, and men learn just how little 'comfort' is necessary to make life good. So whilst our 'military' friend has taken his pot shot at me, I do understand what he was trying to get across. But then, having spent the better part of thirty years not in my native land, and having returned to find my country f'cked up by the lazy and useless UK males, maybe he hasn't spent long enough away from home yet.


Afterthought - So what exactly does Mr Marine Corp know about the problems with the UK social benefits and education system? And does he really think the UK Forces would be anywhere near the Afganistan or Iraq if it weren't for some outmoded belief that we needed to provide backup for the US Military? Let's face it, neither of our countries should be there. If we wanted to take out AQ, we should have done it surgically aind waited for the chance.

Basic economics. But at least these people work hard and don't live off of welfare. And when they don't have one work source they go and find another. They may well be inept when it comes to finances, but they aren't lazy per se.

I've always aspired to a certain standard of living, and I stretch my finances thin a lot of the time. But instead of cutting back on what I spend, I choose to increase the amount I earn by working harder and more diligently.

The 'poor' in society choose to live that way. It's what they want. They don't want to be able to eat well. They don't want to be healthy. They don't want to go to work. They can't be arsed getting involved in their children's lives. They don't see any reason to 'learn' anything. Their entire life revolves around TV and dragging society down. Society should combat this by removing their insentives to stay on their lazy asses. Remove their welfare, and hey presto, they will find a job.

This is very basic human motivation. They will work in order to eat or they will die. Stop paying them to sit on their arse.

Apparantly he got talked into another run instead...which is good, the people that handle these do a pretty good job of keeping track of you.   Unlike the Mongol Rally, where you can drive off a cliff or something and no one would probably ever find your body.....

The problem with buying something like that is never wanting to drink it because it cost so damn much.  

Head Start is a government run pre-school program for low income kids.  The license needed to teach pre-school (at least in this state) is not the same as a teaching certificate.   Mistaking a teacher's aid for a teacher is a common error.

You're smarter than the teachers you meet because you're smarter than 90% of the people you meet.  That's why you're here.  And I'm being conservative on the 90%....it's probably closer to 97%.

I had a Math teacher/bartender at my bar in NYC....Couldn't count his bank...do the math.

Work with that sentence.  Read it over a few times.  Consider.  What word is in that sentence that might give you a clue to gain perspective on the math problems?
