I should have been clearer, Matt:  I know you played in my game, I didn't get to play in your game where you were DMing :D

If Jason runs a game, I'll want to play that too, come to think of it....

Yep, you missed playing with Dennis Sustare in my game.  :D
He's really hard to sucker into traps ... the real old-guard guys were clearly trained in a very suspicious school of dungeoneering.

Watching Dennis negotiate Matt's dungeon was a thing of beauty....and to think, he had told Doug and I he hadn't played in a game in years. Pretty sharp guy!

For those who like to plan ahead.....something you might be interested in! From the NTRPG Con website:

First confirmed special guest for 2011, a bit early, and hopefully his schedule remains open...

From: "Otus, Erol"
To: "Doug Rhea" <DougRhea@ntrpgcon.com>
Date: 2009/11/16 13:51
Subject: RE: North Texas RPG Con

Hello Doug, yes I am definitely interested in attending the North Texas RPG con.

I've heard very good things about it from Allan and also Joseph Goodman.

Though I would like to attend in 2010 I can't. Our game goes beta on May 28th which means June is going to be the
crazy-nobody-takes-timeoff-we're-there-everyday-of-the-week type of month.

This might change, and I will advise if so but it seems unlikely to me. Otherwise 2011!

Best regards,

eo

Heh... Guests for 2011, already; and of the calibre of Erol? You guys are too well organised! Kudos. ;)

As a follow up, we still haven't gotten the game sign up software going, so we won't be listing actual game sign up for awhile (and Acaeum members will be first to know!)  You can, however, register for the con and pay the $20 to reserve your place in what is looking to be another incredible experience.  We have CONFIRMED all our special guests (Tim Kask, Rob Kuntz, Paul Jaquays, Steve Winter, Dennis Sustarre, Jim Ward and Jason Braun) and may even have another before all is said and done.  Matt Finch (Swords & Wizardry), Jon Hershberger and Allan Grohe (Black Blade Publishing), Bill Barsh (Pacesetter Games), and somebody called the "Troll Lords" have already confirmed their appearances.   I'm confident in saying except for Garycon you will NOT find another Old-School oriented lineup like this on the planet! :D

Plus, from here on out the boards will start having more and more info, you might want to check them daily.

Edited my above post to include Jim!

I'm fired up about "Diesel"....probably my favorite cartographer of all time. Maybe I can get him to draw a map for me....!

Guys;

The Events List is up....check it out when you get a chance.  Event signup will begin as soon as the majority of games are up. Note that when the time comes, you will have to be signed up for the con itself before you can register for games or events.

Dang!  Looks like I better get my act together and get my events submitted, pronto-like.  Hmmm, what to run...

Mike, thanks for putting me on the schedule again this year even though I haven't submitted any details yet. And thanks for slotting me in for the 8:00 AM games... :(   (isallright - I'm always up early anyway)

I'll get some details to you in the next couple of days.

Sleeping - that's what Sunday night is for!!   :lol:

I'm really looking forward to this year's convention, Mike.  The weekend you and Doug put on is fantastic. I think the turnout is going to be great again this year - we may even drag a few of our regulars from here in Wichta along for the weekend.  Regardless, this is going to be the shoe-in convention for oldschoolers for the summer.

From the NTRPG Con website, this is the first "official" seminar I'm writing in. We hope to have a couple others, including an art panel/show/striptease by Jason Braun.  Let me know what you think....

Mike B.

Guys;

I'm not in a rush to develop the seminars/panels fully yet, but wanted to let you know that I've come up with what I think is a good theme for the Saturday afternoon seminar: Concept and Design of the Megadungeon. Recently this staple of dungeon delving has been getting a lot of attention, and I thought it might be an appropriate subject. We already had the panel set with Paul Jaquays, Rob Kuntz and Allan Grohe, so it seemed to work.

Paul Jaquays, whose classic Caverns of Thracia and Dark Tower are types of megadungeons, and Rob Kuntz, whose El Raja Key (along with Castle Greyhawk and Castle Blackmoor) is perhaps one of the oldest and most historical example of this concept. Round it off with Allan Grohe, who a veritable font of knowledge on the subject of Castle Greyhawk, and Jason Cone, who has gotten a lot of interest from old schoolers through his essay "The Dungeon as Mythic Underworld" and his definitions of megadungeons.  I think this one will be of interest to a lot of guys attending!  I'll be moderating...with talent like this I'll be able to sit back and enjoy...!
