If you're going to be running a campaign, there's also the E6 method. Basically you progress normally to level 6, and thereafter every 5000 xp you gain a feat. Of course, this may not sit well with first time players, especially younger ones. But those of us who have played to higher levels understand why it might be appealing ;)
