That's odd I was unaware that the money was ever mine like don't you have to accept the money off of pay pal and second when was it that he had the books I'm so confused cuz had that happen I wouldn't had talked to any of you any future it's only because of the forum here that I felt shorted only asked people from this community for better offers so hmm it's more like I got a pic of 2k as proof of the money existence and a promise to get the car in 3 days

Eerie.  Here's an exact quote from an email I received almost exactly 11 years ago from a guy in Wisconsin who popped up with a 1st print woodgrain for sale, as well as (obviously) a Chainmail:

"I have figured out what happened and the dudes had some cause; but,  
rest assured nothing I did was meant to harm or rip off any person.  
I may burn the Chainmail if your are not inclined to buy it."

He claimed to have a friend with a massive trove of old wargaming materials that would trickle out through private sales.  Both of them had no experience with eBay and no interest in learning how to use it.  We exchanged several emails, some of which were cc'd to another member here.  The woodgrain, which I purchased, turned out to be a hybrid 1st/2nd.

Anyway, what an odd situation.  It brought back some memories.

If you or your friend have a Paypal account, then no you do not need to "accept" the payment - the money is in your account and you can spend it.  Also, didn't you tell the buyer to send it through Paypal and they did just that?  This is what you accepted as payment, so yes you got paid for the item - it then ceased being yours.  The fact that you didn't deliver it is the shady part - you breached the contract.

We do now know what a VG/F set of 1st print books only would sell for today on eBay based on this Auction = $910 + shipping
