Additional information on proxy bidding I received from Live Game Auctions. Please read if you are considering placing a proxy bid.

Proxy bidding is not normally done on charity items, but we are allowing proxy bids on these lots. However we really encourage anyone bidding on these items to be in the room bidding if they can.  The auction would really appreciate taking as few proxy bids as possible.  
Plus we are estimating only one hour for the special auction, from 7 p.m. - 8.pm. and it will be a really fun hour!  I'm hoping all the bidders can find time to make it to the event in person.


If the bidder absolutely can't be there to bid in person, here are some important notes about placing a proxy bid on a special section item:

 - The person placing the proxy bid needs to be onsite and have a badge like a normal bidder.  

 - They have to open a tab, and they will need to give us their credit card information to secure the tab.  (They can set up the tab when they get their bid card, no need to wait until they place the proxy bid.)

 - As Frank mentioned, they will need to identify a specific item/lot and a maximum price. (They should make up their mind before they come talk to us, no changing the price once they've placed the proxy bid.)

 - Any items won will need to be picked up Saturday night, preferably as close to the end of the special auction as possible. (estimated to be 8 p.m.)  
   With Saturday being the last day of the auction we need the tabs cleared as soon as possible so we can get everything sorted out.

I'll add my thanks to Curt too.  It took a great deal of effort to pick interesting items, and get the lots put together and carefully assembled (and bagged and boarded).  Through his efforts (and WoTC's donation), some interesting items have found their way into the collecting community, and by my count over $15,000 was raised for the Gygax Memorial.

That was an AMAZING experience.

Thank you very much to everyone who participated in the charity auction. The bidding was incredibly generous! It seemed like the folks from the Acaeum were a big part of that. Having Frank Mentzer, Harold Johnson and Tim Kask tell stories about the items made it just that much more special. I am glad Gail Gygax was there to see how much people cared. I have not received the final total yet but I am certain we broke US$10K and as Bracton indicated it is likely closer to 15. I will post the final number once available.

I had a great time meeting and talking will many of you. It was nice to chat with fellow collectors who understood a specialized vocabulary. There are few places where one can simply say "woodgrain box" or "mono cover" and everyone knows what they are talking about. I was able to witness some amazing purchases. As an example my eyes popped out when I saw the Burntwire Brothers pickup that beautiful copy of GorgonStar Titan they mentioned.

I was not allowed to bid on the charity auction items but I did manage to pick up quite a few pieces during the general auction including an OCE white box, a couple issues of Players Association News and a 1st print Dungeon!. My favorite win was the Tom Wham original art that matches the auction staff button I was given  

I hope to see folks again next year and/or at the NTRPG Con.
