Let's see what happens.  I am a big fan of water cannon in these situations but although it was used where I grew up it is not available here (duh!!).  Nothing stops you from enjoying being out with your mates nicking some boxfresh trainers and smashing up shops than getting totally drenched (one reason why riots just do not happen in the rain that often).

All true. Police in the UK are severely crippled by public bodies like Liberty and various human rights lobbies. Even more so in Scotland where it is no longer possible for a Police Officer to ask someone a question in the street without ensuring that person has legal representation. Twenty years of socialism have effectively removed the balls and backbone from brittish society. This has been a long time coming in England and it's amusing that all the hug-a-hoodie's who are now seeing their cars, homes and businesses going up in flames.

Just today there was one woman absolutely outraged that her business had been destroyed when she was filmed at 7am this morning, and by midday she was saying it was because the youth felt disaffected and we need to do more to engage with them and help them feel part of our lives. In a matter of hours she'd gone from wanting to kill the f"ckers to wanting to cuddle the kids who destroyed her life. Maybe it's karma.

sad times in the UK indeed. Ian is quite right in much of what he says - liberal and "soft" justice can sometimes do far more harm than good, particularly in the long term.

However, though I am in no way condoning the actions of most of these idiots I would point out that it must be crap being young in this country at the moment, and for the forseeable future. 1 in 5 under 25s unemployed cannot be right surely. Back in my day, if you wanted to work, you could, simple as that - this is now just not the casse for many of our young people. We can trot out all the excuses and reasons under the sun, society/education/economic decline/social intol\erance etc.but this is not helping a young person that just wants to get on in life.
This country is letting down its youth  and giving itaelf huge societal problems for many years to come.
My oldest son is 15 and could potentially be entering his last year in full time education(though he'll go to college if I have to force him their at knifepoint!!) and I know that he and many of his mates are already seriusly concerned about the future, seeing the way that lads from their school have gone into the world with high hopes and yeat a year or more later thay still have no work - it's uttely wrong that this kind of worry should even be on a 15 year olds radar, god knows I was worrying about very different things when I was his age.

Anyway, sorry for the semi-rant. Great Britain is still (imo) Great, but perhaps not so much anymore - there are far more positives than negatives to being an Englishman, but still, cause for concern eh?

Lol. There was also a Rymans Stationers on that street that wasn't touched. Why would they want books or pens and paper? Most of these kids come from families who's parents don't even know how to read or write.

Thanks for saying it so I didn't have to. It's nice to know not everyone here is a jackass. I don't pretend to understand the issues involved in the riots in the UK, but if I recall my own education correctly, involuntary unemployment is hardly a myth.
