I wanted to give you guys an update on the D&D game that I started with the kids back last Fall.  They have thoroughly enjoyed just about every aspect of 1E, and I set up a very straight-forward -- but fun -- Mines of Moria campaign for them to play.

In case you don't remember, these kids are quadruplets (2 boys, 2 girls) whose Mom has Parkinson's and Lupus, and whose dad is a bastard and AWOL.

Anyway ...

I also got a chance to show them how to play very simple 0E rules (Microlite74 to be exact).  This came up as a result of the horrible storms that devastated Alabama over the past week.  Here in Huntsville we had no power for several days, so there was a lot of old-school entertainment going on (Monopoly, Clue, poker, chess, checkers, etc).

So I took the dungeon map in the white box and mapped it out (by flashlight) and then let them play with a minimal rule set, using only law, chaos, neutrality; simple combat; d6 damage, etc.

I noticed a change in game-play.
They were not as serious-minded as they were during our 1E campaign.
It could've been the situation.  Or it could be that 0E being simple made the game "feel" more light-hearted.  Not sure.

Anyway, I'd like to again thank all of you for encouragement (and Pipswich for helping me find some good used rule books).

It's been a lot of fun and has enabled these kids to get their minds off an otherwise depressing situation at home.

thanks
Keith
