The red box look is rather "bait and switch" but personally I don't see why not: in a good cause and in a more chronologically pleasing direction than the recent WotC effort.

Which tells me you did not want people's opinion, you really wanted people's praise.

I suggest you read again my posts, especially the parts where I thank everybody for the feedback. But asking for comments is not asking for a vote and the results of this fascinating discussion are not binding for me or for the publisher. This is, I strive to add, NOT a way to say 'your opinion is useless' (if I thought so, why asking for feedback in the first place?), simply that it's not a deciding factor (but all comments were forwarded to the artist and book designer). I, not surprisingly, disagree with people saying 'the cover is amateurish, the cover is bad, the cover damages the book' - I'm not saying that they are wrong, they could be right, simply I'm of a different opinion. Everybody that saw the cover (gamers, collectors, ex gamers, professionals in the gaming field, etc.) immediately realized what the book is about. That, for me, it's a reassurance of the cover's usefulness.

PS: there is nothing wrong about being an 'amateur' per se. I'm an amateur journalist for example. I take difference only when 'amateur' is used as a sniding remark.

FWIW, I'd remove the Drow for the same reason cited above.

I would have preferred a white box look with the font TSR used for OD&D and 1E.

The red box look doesn't have the same impact for me.

Something closer to the original PHB cover would've gotten my attention.

I'll buy it just the same, though.

i actually liked the first photo, rather than the drow one....but hey

We could not use the artwork, it was created for an heavy metal band's CD collection :wink:

@ Keith: well, we thought about that but we considered that in Europe the red box is far more known than the AD&D first edition hardbacks so we went for that. About the fonts, the publisher wanted to avoid possibile hassles due to the recent 're release' of a new Red Box by WotC so we changed font and title graphic. My initial plans was to made the title as far as similar to the original Dungeons & Dragons logo on the red box as possible. WotC kinda stopped our plans :roll:

still better than the drow one tho...the drow doesnt kinda look right to me for some reason...?
