In general, you can  snag a solid, clean copy for around $35. If it is well-used and a bit beat up, you can get it for around $25. Mint copies are another story. If word gets out and the listing is strong, it will exceed $60.

But I would say you can get a soid, clean book for around $35 or maybe less if you are patient enough. Also, look for D&D lot sales. You can find the RC packed in with a bunch of other stuff and get a very good deal.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

Well, it seems to be stable.  So relative to everything else, yeah, it's rising.   :D

I haven't been following this, either. ;-)

Just surprised by prices on eBay.
So, thought I'd ask.
It won't happen again ;-)

Your post was or is perfectly legit.
The RC is a great topic. But prices have always held pretty steady. For a hard cover the RC is way out of the norm. But again, I attribute that to the fact that it is an excellent book with a low print run.

Price seems to fluctuate with the RC. I've seen auctions jump to $70+ and others way down in the $10-20 range... best way to get it is in a lot, which is quite common. Of course, you may end up having junk you don't want and can't sell / trade.

Those who can, don't. Those who should not, do.

Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement.
I'm a new old collector, or an old new collector,
and do not have a good feel for prices, print runs, etc.

This is especially true since my interest in D&D started to seriously wane about the time the RC was published.

The whole trajectory -- from OD&D to B/X/M/C to RC -- fascinates me.
