Interesting that this is a thread, since I just recently had a book sent to me in a bubble envelope without cardboard. Unfortunately, the book got beaten up some during shipping. I wrote the seller about it and he wrote back that he was out of cardboard, at the time, and was sorry that my book got a bit damaged. It wasn't an expensive book, or anything, and I'm willing to give the seller the benefit of the doubt, so I'm fine with everything. (I wanted the book mostly to read.) If it was an expensive item, and it was damaged in such packaging, I would almost surely have had to request a refund, though.

I like my purchases properly packaged: it makes the inexpensive and undamaged collectable items a good deal in the end.
How expensive is a piece of cardboard for a seller anyway!

Generally a seller can make a flat box (2 pieces of thick cardboard sandwiched around a book or module) at little extra cost. They just dont want to spend the time doing it. But even a flat box is much more easily damaged then a regular box. The only way to break sellers of the bubble mailer habit is to neg the hell out of them.

As a seller, I'm thrilled when a collector appreciates careful packing and the value of a sturdy cardboard box to protect collectibles. My stars aren't quite as high on the selling cost--because there is no star for careful packing and quality packing materials, alas.

I think buyers sometimes get used to really cheap shipping (e.g., bubble envelopes or just plain envelopes). But I'd rather lose a little money on the shipping materials than risk having a collectible damaged in shipment. Ultimately it is the seller's risk, no matter what their listing says. If it arrives in a condition other than what was listed, you should certainly contact the seller for a refund or replacement.

The most annoying thing is the waste of time for both parties--time that could be better spent buying/selling.
Those two cardboard pieces are a real time-saver.

The two best packing jobs I've had recently were both non-Ebay purchases. Coas Books and Crazy Egor.

I always make sure to email a seller whenever I receive something that I'm pleased with, and often times it is spurred on by the wonderful packing that comes with it.
