PC is my game system of choice. Yes, I have indeed played the Baldur's Gate series, which, IMO, are absolutely fantastic. I am actually playing through them again (for the third time) right now. They predate NWN2, however.

What I was mainly asking was if anyone knew of any games currently in development that are using the D&D license (preferably Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk)? I'm aware of Elder Scrolls as well as Dragon Age Origins, however I just could not get interested in the game worlds. :-/

I'm not a PC gamer, although I've seen a few in the games shops I visit, but couldn't tell how good. I'm guessing you can't go wrong with Baldurs Gate series, particularly the 4 in 1 boxet.

With regards game consoles, I thoroughly enjoyed Elder Scrolls:Oblivion for the PS3, especially the game of the year edition which had the extra expansion sections.

This is quite a good site for reviews if you are ever looking?

beyond the NWN2 expansion sets, I'm not aware of any specific FR or GH world based games, but I suspect thats an expensive licencing thing. Why pay big bucks for a world when you can get equivalent sales from your own similar creation. But I'd love to see a DnD game again, as I've not played one since Baldurs Gate 2 on the PS2 or the Eternal Sun on MegaDrive/Genesis

Well then, you should definitely purchase and play NWN2 and the expansion Mask of the Betrayer. Great story, great characters, fantastic game.

If you have a computer with a video card that can handle the requirements, I highly recommend Dragon Age: Origins.  It's an RPG with an unbelievably complex storyline.  There are several different races and classes you can start out with and the beginning of the game is different depending on which you choose.  There are several different endings as well and every decision you make during the game affects the story and the outcome.  There are about 15 or 20 different NPC's that you can add to your party during the game (I think you get a maximum of four at a time).  It is a lot of fun to play but can be maddeningly difficult at times.

And it was produced by BioWare, the same group that did Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, and Knights of the Old Republic series.

I must have just read right over this.     Never could get into the Elder Scrolls series.  I like being able to do what I want in a game and not have to follow a script all the time, but the open-endedness of Daggerfall was just too much.  I played a bit of Morrowind but it didnt hold a candle to NWN2 IMO.  Although I will say that the first time I tried playing Baldur's Gate I didnt like it at all.  I ended up going back to it about a year after I bought it and played it again.  Much better the second time around.  Maybe give Dragon Age another chance?

What's "International Site Visibility" (on UK ebay)? It seems that if you pay 30p per item, items will be more visible outside the UK. So does that imply that if you don't pay that 30p, then people in the US + Canada are unlikely to see the listings?
Interesting. When my listings ended the other day, after a month I'd only sold two items to the US.  :(

I've had a few items up the past week, 2 sold to USA, 1 to Germany and I've had questions about them from France, Italy & Sweden. All I've done is list them as normal via ebay.co.uk, didn't pay any extra... Maybe just unlucky on your part rather than not listing??

My laptop is not PC game friendly... But I do have a PS3 and have heard good things on Dragon Age, so may give that a go as well..

Astenon, I have found that all items I have sold recently get a healthy interest from US and France especially after advertising in classifieds here.  However, most still sell in UK due to the very high charges I have to put on P&P due to Royal Mail.

Also, I thought I was paying only 10p an item for US/Canada visibility.  I assume that as markets are less outside US, most international buyers would make a point of checking worldwide on their searches.

Perhaps I will. I paid for it, after all.

Baldur's Gate 1&2 are, to me, the best computer role playing games ever released, and I judge every computer role playing game by their standards. NWN2 (and Mask of the Betrayer expansion) came close. The old SSI "gold box" games also came close. Nothing else has (IMO). I actually got teary-eyed at the end of BG2. You can go ahead and revoke my "man card" now...

Planescape: Torment is loads more fun than any Baldur's Gate. There's just something special about having a pet flying skull.

That's how I feel about Fallout.  With the exception of a few minor glitches, the first Fallout is, IMO, a masterpiece.  When I finished it the first time I was actually depressed.  I had to wait for Fallout 2 and it seemed to take forever.  Once I got it though, it just wasnt nearly as good as the first one.  Fallout 3 isnt quite the same but I have probably spent more hours playing it than any other game I own.

By the way, for anyone interested in CRPG's (D&D or otherwise) this is a pretty darn good read:

Here's the link to the site visibility fee cutting announcement:

With my last month's listings, most sold to the UK and Europe, two went to the USA, some went to Canada and something like a dozen items went to Australia. The latter destination made me wonder if the Aussie dollar is good for buying stuff from the UK at the moment!

Yes, Fallout 1 was undeniably a very, very good CRPG. Better than 99% of the CRPGs that have been released since.

I have played Fallout on the PS3 and it was good, but seemed a little linear (which may have been due to my choices). But I will try the Dragon Age as that looks good.  :)

Still from the James Burke series "Connections 3".
This is from episode 7 describing Kepler's discovery of the ancient Greek "5 solids".
Look familiar?  :)

If you are referring to Fallout 3, the main quest is very linear.  But there is so much going on in the Capital Wasteland that you can almost forget about the main quest and do your own thing.  Especially if you have the DLC add-ons.  They each add several hours on to an already incredibly long game.  One of the guys I work with was very disappointed with Fallout 3.  He said it was too short a game.  After speaking with him for a bit I found out that he only followed the main quest and didnt do anything else.  He started over and played it for a couple of weeks and realized just how much he had missed.  It is now his favorite game.

And since the enemies are scaled to the level of your character, the game just keeps on getting harder the longer you play it.  I just finished one of the DLC add-ons called The Pitt where you travel to the irradiated city of Pittsburgh to help overthrow its tyrannical overlord and free a bunch of slaves.  You have to pretend to be a runaway slave to get into the city so you start out with no armor or weapons.  You have to scavenge the city for stuff and by fighting in the arena against other slaves you can earn your freedom and eventually get an audience with the "head bad guy".  Of course by then you find out that nothing is as it seems and you have to make a few morally challenging decisions.  I think the next time I decide to play through the game I'm going do it "chaotic evil" and see what happens.

very good points actually. I did stick to the main story generally, as I don't/didn't get to play regularly, so kept forgetting what I was up to and found it easier to go main stream..

However, I found Elder Scrolls very enjoyable on the main story and as I was able to just stumble across 'dungeons' as I explored the country side it added a lot more.

I found the combat easier in Elder than Fallout 3 too. But that may just be me  :?

Did you play on PC or PS3 with Fallout 3 & The Pitt?

The main quest of Fallout 3 only covers about ten percent of the overall game.  And that is without the add-on's.  Also, you max out at level 20 which doesnt seem to take very long.  There is one specific add-on you can purchase called Broken Steel that changes the level cap to 30, gives you a whole bunch of new perks to boot, and extends the game past the original ending (which sucked).

The add-ons that you can purchase are:
The Pitt
Broken Steel
Point Lookout
Operation Anchorage
Mothership Zeta

I've played through The Pitt, Operation Anchorage, and Point Lookout.  I'll be starting the Broken Steel quests as soon as I've gone back and cleaned The Enclave out of the Jefferson Memorial and restarted Project Purity.  And I dont own the Mothership Zeta add-on.  You can read all about the game and the add-ons here:
