Just wanted to weigh in here, too.  I know that it's entirely possible some may drop from the list, but I would suggest bumping up the initial order only one time and chalk it up to underestimating the initial response. Then leave it at that.

At the outset, I definitely didn't think there'd be as many people interested either, but who knew? I think it's great so many are interested, that it does foster the spirit of our community, and that it helps out an awesome artist. I think it's great endevour and I really appreciate the board's time in bringing this thing about.

Even if it's bumped up once to a total of 70 or 75 (not sure the official wait list number) with some folks dropping out from the final tally, it seems that there's sufficient interest in a second copy that the remaining leftovers can be auctioned off.

If it helps clarify what we're about, then I do not mind changing the terminology.

Ben, I misread this line the first time around, or ran it into your follow-on comment and missed what you were saying. So my comment about your, "stock response", is unfounded and I apologise. Indeed, I think it would be a very good idea to clarify things by refraining from using the term "community" when referring to this project. That would certainly clear away my one and only objection to what otherwise I see as a very exciting idea which, despite any third party misconceptions, I hope is a great success.

Exaggerated, to be sure, but only slightly.

I assume the "committee" wouldn't let this happen... and you know very well this is not what I'm proposing.

Badmike wrote:Not to pull back the curtain too much, but for everyone posting we should up the total printed, we hear from someone (or get a PM) telling us to stay firm on the 50.

Well that's just lame... Sorry. There is a simple way to make this fair and square and it's pretty obvious people are making lame excuses why not to... and I'm having a hard time understanding that.

I'm certainly "new" here by comparison.. but I'd like to think that I'm part of this community. 'Would be a shame that you would listen folks asking for 2-3 copies and whispering to keep the number at 50, not to mention folk with less than say 50 posts, over folks like myself that really just want ONE to keep for myself forever.

We really are just talking about making 20-25 more. Not 300, not bending rules etc. And these would obviously end up in the hand of deserved community members by the power of the committee.

Cheers,
D

Though offset printing is one method the EO Committee is considering, we're also looking at digital/giclee printing.

D, the factors that go into producing a quality, archival print (stock and inks, for a start), not to mention the scan/shoot, colour correction, the proofs, and the printing itself, have to be weighed carefully.

We're doing our best, and we will produce a quality, limited edition print.

Best,

Paul

Wise words from bbarsh 'TWO MONTHS AGO' and you are all still going.  Perhaps one person should get on with this on their own and then sell them rather than doing this as a group of 50 or so blokes having a shouting match? :?

And could you put me on the list if there is still space :D

I am very curious on the committee's response to those of us that may not post as much as others, but visit the site on a daily basis. I was one of the lucky 50, and would be very disappointed to know that I could left out because I don't have over a certain amount of posts or a max period of time as a registered user.

Thanks to everyone involved in this project, I understand how much work goes on in the background to make something like this work.

You have 51 posts... I think we are talking about folks with only but a few that posted solely to get on the list.

A handful of posts is no effort...51 takes an amount of effort.  I have had a look back through the thread and some on the list haven't posted anything since their request for their names to be included.

Why would anyone be excluded no matter HOW many posts they have made to this forum?

When I joined this forum, I did not make a single post until after I had been a member here for almost a complete year.
I read the forums almost every day, yet never made a post, since I had nothing to say.

As of today, I have made almost 1700 posts to this forum and some Contributing Members here feel very strongly that I do not deserve to be called a true member of the Acaeum at all, because I do not contribute a damned thing to this forum or the community.
According to those Contributing Members ; how many posts you have made means not a damned thing.

Yeah I read the reasons given above for ousting some low posting members from getting a Print, and I think they are as lame as a first level duck Paladin who has been trashed by a Tarrasque...... 8O

I think that a person who has joined and signed on here is either a member, or he/she is not.    :?

However; If that member does not also contribute, then yeah lets oust all those useless bastards!
WAIT a minute... that means me too!

Umnn... never mind......

OK, here are the main reasons that I think that is so much BS.
The number of a members posts, or the time length of membership here were never posted as part of a members qualifications for getting a copy of the print.
Until page 17-18 of this thread that so-called new qualification/requirement was never even brought up.

As far as I can tell, the Original qualifications were:
Be a member.
Be one of the first 50 to sign on.

Aneoth,

I understand the way you feel.  However, I do think there should be a very low "minimum" number of posts.  When I first saw the sign-up I thought about calling one of my friends and having them sign-up and I would pay and thus I would have 2 copies or 3 or 4.

I would like to see as many of those on the waiting list get copies as possible and if we have some "opportunists" who happened to show up for the sign-up before folks who have "established" themselves on the forum I belive the committee would be right to apply a small (25?) post requirement.

By the way, I guess I'm not considered a "real" member as I have very little "content" knowledge to share with the group.  I believe I (as well as yourself) contribute in a different way.

Martin

If some Acaeum members (including EO Committee members) feel so strongly that folks with low post numbers should not be allowed to participate in the Art of the Acaeum series, then let that be one of the STATED qualifications NEXT TIME... before page 17 of the thread.

And before several months time has passed....... :(

Everyone agreed that this was going to be a learning experience.
Let it be just that.

I would be far more disposed to BEG the EO committee to print more copies for those Contributing Members of this forum who are being shut out by us Non-Contributing members from attaining a copy of this print.

Make new rules for the next time.

Make an attempt to do something, Learn from your first attempt, then move forward.

Dont change the rules in the end game.
That is simply WRONG..........

You just need to find a way of defining the difference between members who joind to take the opportunity to buy, and those who have always been members who just don't contribute much. Seems pretty simple. We shouldn't give priority in the purchase list to new opportunistic purchasers over established members who happened to catch the thread late or habeen on sabatical for whatever reason.

Establishing date of membership and date of first post seems to be the obvious way of identifying those who should not be given priority over more established members of the community. It might not seem fair, but if you're gonna draw a line, it has to be done for the good of the community, and I'm sure that new members wil understand. Those who don't, might very well be the opportunists you are trying to identify.

I understand that people may feel excluded because they missed the announcement, or may even suspect the Commission of nefarious and ulterior motives of speculation and exclusion. I'm not a member of said Commission, but in the personal dealings I've had with them, they seem like stand-up guys. What do I know, though? My post count is laughable.

Two points stick with me, so I feel moved to voice them:

1) It has been mentioned numerous times that if this is successful, they will be doing it as a series, featuring other beloved artists of yesteryear. The door is closed on getting a piece of this Otus project, but there's always next time! Then it will be someone else's lot to moan about not making the cut.

2) The more hassle that arises from this initial run, the lesser the liklihood that anyone would want to bother coordinating a future project. Obviously I can't speak for the Commission, but I know how I would feel if all of my efforts were met with bickering, accusations and smarmy trolling. I wouldn't bloody bother doing it again. I'd be better off contacting the artist directly and getting a unique piece of art for ME ME ME!

Now, the fact remains that some on the "lucky" list may be puppet accounts created solely to circumvent the restriction of one copy per person. If so, well, that's just despicable and greedy, and it should be on the conscience of those involved. I'm in favor of a post count/join date/IP audit.

That all being said, I'd like to withdraw my reservation (lucky you, davidc!). I'm a fan of Otus' work, but not a rabid fan. Nor am I more than an occasional lurker of these forums who just so happened to check in on the right day, so I disqualify myself in deference to more productive members of the community. Now, were this a Jim Holloway piece, which is a possibility of the future, I'd stick to my guns to the bitter end. ;)[/b]
