We've already passed the anniversary of Gary's forward, as noted here: 50th Anniversary of the “Forward” to D&D – DONJON LANDS

They quote "the foreward is often written last" and then (therefore) the date must be when he typed it. Rather than when it was actually printed.

That'll hold me through the cold nights when GRRM releases The Winds of Winter and history backdates it 10 years because he wrote the foreward then.  :D  :D  :D

Jan 24th, 2024 is the date by any who are not looking for an excuse to write a blog post I guess

OR: I believe that realistically, Gygax was born understanding what D&D needed to be and therefore the 1938 is the proper starting point for D&D.

True, but "any who are not looking for an excuse to write a blog post" would exclude all of us here as well. January 24 might be the date of its actual sale to the public, but the date on Gary's forward is what we saw when we started learning the game from OD&D or the Holmes edition. Since that anniversary has already passed without note, let us never utter the phrase "50th anniversary" again.

Incomplete copy #96 of Lost Tamoachan at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Acaeum/ ... 702342976/ that’s missing the character sheets.

When I looked the other day, #96 wasn’t listed at https://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/modpages/c1.html already (unless I missed it of course ;) ).  Was it added this week?

Allan.

We went through it page by page over FB and he told me he has all 26 pieces of paper Lost Tamoachan is supposed to have. The cover looks very nice too. He is going to send it to Paul Stormberg to be sold in a Collector's Trove auction. It should do very well.

Lost Tamoachan most recent sale was on ComicLink and it went for $6,600 as a reference.

I'm going to assume most big ticket collectors have a copy, so I am curious who will buy it and whether some of them may buy another copy. I believe items like that are more speculative than the more publicly known ones eg woodgrain, white boxes, autographed core books etc.

Whether most big ticket collectors have a copy or not, which I doubt, it will sell for a very good amount.  I don't think this module is more speculative.  This is a well-known item and they are incredibly rare.  To find one for sale in decent condition, is becoming much more difficult.

To put it in perspective, there have been 35 recorded sales on The Acaeum since 2003.  Here's a plot of the number sold each year.  I've added an additional one for 2023, assuming that this one sells this year.

Based purely on the sales per year, the forecast is for only one , maybe two, to come up for sale per year until 2036, then the number drops below one.

Obviously this can change, based on a number of factors, but it's fair to say that there will likely not be a lot of these coming up for sale, unless and until some of the big-ticket collectors collections are sold off.

And I believe the last one that sold on ebay went for just under $10,000. I would think that if copy #96 makes its way to a Stormberg auction, it will likely sell for $10,000 or more. We will see. Prices are only going up on these items, if they are properly advertised.
