If, by some chance, there were 20 or more of us willing to shell out say $50.00 for an 17x24 limited edition print, I think Mr. Otus would take more interest in that offer than one person requesting an individual piece of work at $250.00. Each print could be individually numbered and signed.
megnelwil wrote:Hi Mike, apart from a couple of points, that seems to be an accurate commentary on the facts as I understand them. However, your use of the term, "community", and the way you relate it directly to the Acaeum still confuses me.
Most certainly a subset of the Acaeum community has been invited to participate in this project. Would you agree, therefore, a clear distinction between this subset of Acaeum members and the wider Acaeum "Community" ought to be acknowledged rather than the former continue to be applied as the latter despite the indisputable and fundamental difference? Is there a suitable term that could be applied to this subset of members so confusion over the idea of what the Acaeum community refers to might be resolved?
I believe Ben's original suggestion when this thread was created was very much focused on the community and no ambiguity existed. But I'm sure nobody is under any real illusions as to the transformation in the nature of this project that has been detailed in subsequent contributions and agreed to by the subset of members.
I'm not angling for a copy of the print, starting an artwork collection would surely finish me off financially .
Actually there was one other point, "the majority of the individuals getting the prints are Acaeum members". Clarification might be useful here as any recipients other than the artist himself and Acaeum members would seem unreasonable given there is a waiting list and in light of the points you have detailed.
Seriously, it is a good time to remind everyone that the decision making is done by the EO Committee, but the EO Committee has chosen to be as transparent as is practical. We welcome feedback and observations and we hope they are constructive. We may embrace, reject or ignore any suggestion or feedback, but we will listen. We may not answer every question to everyone's satisfaction. We also realize we won't please everyone and won't try to either. And, from time to time, members of the committee will say things that need retracting or changing. Most importantly, we are going to get this done, and I think our efforts will prove most worthwhile.
TheMilford wrote:Just a thought... would it be completely out-of-line to suggest the total amount be expanded to say 60 or 75?I realize it's possible that it will depreciate the individual value of a print but 75 is still a low number for this kind of signed/numbered/authenticated print...And if they are being offset printed it really shouldn't raise the cost that much either.Hell, even a 100 would be a nice limited number... I just really would like one of these and am feeling a little bummed I wasn't paying close enough attention to this development... I'm sure it would make more of us in this "community" all the more excited.

benjoshua wrote:The Committee has met over several e-mails briefly, and we have already decided at least one thing. The number of prints will be cut off at 50. The number of prints ordered by any one person will definitely not exceed two (2) and may be limited to one (1). We are interested in this being more of a collectible than an investment. If the interest exceeds the print run, then names will be added to a waiting list. If people on the interest list opt out, names on the waiting list will get asked to participate. It is important to remember that this committee will finalize the business dealings and details for this endeavor. As we make decisions, we'll do our best to keep you updated. Please continue to add thoughts and suggestions to this thread. Your committee is interested in getting this done and seeing it through.

TheMilford wrote:Geesh!Goalposts? Printing another 25 in attempts to bring the waiting list folk into the fold would do NOTHING to hurt this endeavor... and it is silly to suggest.
bclarkie wrote:As someone who is not currently involved in this directly, if I was, I'd have one point of contention.People on the list who have just joined the forum only under the guise of simply getting in on the list. I mean this is supposed to be a "community project" for this community and if I was on the waiting list or missed out on it at the expense of someone who just joined the forum and is completely unknown to community as it stands, getting one ahead of me, would *bother* me, since they really aren't part of the community at all. That doesn't mean that you have to have thousands of posts and more than x amount of years on the forum, but like there are people on the list with like 3 or 4 posts or less and they are getting in ahead of others who are far more a part of this "community".It doesn't appear that there are currently that many in that situation right now, and I am not sure how you would quantify it, but the point remains the same.
