I can't take a professional league seriously when it only has eight teams....I guess I always thought they had atleast a dozen or so across Canada....

On another note, I just checked the wiki page and noticed the "kicker" of the Toronto Argonauts this year is going to be Mike Vanderjagt.  Nice to see this human piece of refuse got work after cratering like a stink bomb in Dallas a couple of years ago....

I think our Canadian friends are really onto something, though:

Hockey: awesome.

CFL football: awesome.

Curling: awesome.

I'm telling you, when it comes to fun sports, no one can touch the Canadians.  :)

The Argo's season opener is tonight. If I get a chance to watch it I'll let you know if Vanderjagt makes any kick attempts.

Oops...just checked the schedule and their game is scheduled for July 3rd.

They played on the 19th and lost to Hamilton 28-21.

EDIT #2: Damn! I just checked another web site and it says there is an Argos game tonight against Winnipeg.  8O

The first info I got was from the Argo's website, the second web site I went to was the CFL site.

I hope Toronto knows they are supposed to be playing tonight!

Vandercrack never recoverd from missing a potential score tying kick in the 2005 playoffs.  He was signed by the Cowboys in the off season, and the one time most accurate kicker in NFL history missed everything during the preseason and then onto the regular season.  He was shanking 30 yarders by the time the Boys let him go.

He was highly criticized because of his annoying personality and ego while he was in Dallas, maybe he's toned it down after being uncerimoniously shoved out of the NFL after his disastrous 2006 season.  I would be interested to see if he's gotten over the "yips" and can once again make a living as a kicker....sometimes these guys just never recover, though.

I think it's something like that. But I'll be damned if I can remember which one of them is one word and which uses two capital Rs. :)

Isn't the difference between the names that one of them is pronounced with a French accent?  8)

Vanderjagt must be desperate for work, if you read that wiki entry for the CFL you will see that the teams have a $3.8 million salary cap.
That is not per player, that is for the whole roster!
In the NFL there are individual players making more than that!

For teams that exceed the salary cap there is a fine structure.
Under the new cap, teams that spend $100,000 over the limit will be fined $1 for each dollar they're over. For those between $100,000 and $300,000 over the limit, the fines increase to $2 for each dollar over along with a first-round draft pick.

What would be crazy is if they can't figure it out, go to the wrong place ... and then get charged with two losses! ZOMG!  8O    :)

Ahhh! I am stupidness man!

Here is the link to the Argos page.

http://www.argonauts.ca/

I read the schedule line without seeing the light blue print saying "See Full Schedule Here".

The default schedule only shows their home games.

He got a gigantic signing bonus from the Boys, so he's not a candidate for welfare anytime soon.  But after his disastrous half season with the Cowboys, no other NFL team would touch him. he has had tryouts since with a few NFL teams but no contracts. Maybe he figures if he plays well and shows he's kicking good again, he can get another job in the NFL.  Then again maybe he figures he's made his bones, he's just kicking for fun now in his homeland so everything is cool.

Vanderjagt was a wonderful kicker for the Toronto Argos, then was a wonderful kicker for the Colts, and is winding down a wonderful career.

you're never as good as they say you are... and never as bad as they say.

Arrrrr-goooos...

Oh dear...

Thanks to Jason W for alerting me to this absolute GREATNESS in the Toronto Argonauts season opener:

WINNIPEG -- In a game loaded with mistakes, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers made the last big one and the Toronto Argonauts stole themselves a season opening road win.

With 2:15 left to play Friday night, and Toronto ahead 20-16, Argos defensive back Kenny Wheaton intercepted a Kevin Glenn pass and quarterback Michael Bishop got the Argos in position for Mike Vanderjagt to kick a 44-yard field goal, as the Argos beat the Bombers 23-16 in front of 26,155 patrons at Winnipeg's Canad Inns Stadium.

While the Toronto defence kept Kevin Glenn and the vaunted Bombers offence in check, it was Bishop, coming off the bench, who moved the football and put Toronto in a position to win its 2008 season opener.

Argos head coach Rich Stubler said all week that he was blessed with "two starting quarterbacks," and he needed both of them Friday night.

Kerry Joseph, who was acquired in an off-season trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, was given the start in Friday night's game, but when Joseph couldn't move the football early, Stubler had no problem going to last year's starter, Bishop.

Bishop moved the ball relatively well coming off the bench, but it was eventually one of those big, ugly mistakes that gave Toronto its opening touchdown - and Bishop his first touchdown pass of the year.

Late in the second quarter, Bishop hit runningback Jamal Robertson on a little dump pass over the middle and Robertson proceeded to ramble 45 more yards to complete a 52-yard pass-and-run play that gave Toronto a 7-6 lead. However, it wasn't so much Robertson's run as it was the fact Winnipeg's Jason Nugent, Robert Bean and Kelly Malveaux all missed tackles.

Mike Vanderjagt missed his first three field goal attempts before finally connecting on kicks of 49 and 44 yards late in the game.

And the quarterback battle was little more than a skirmish. Bishop finished the game 6-for-14 for 111 yards and one touchdown while Joseph finished 9-for-17 for 73 yards and no touchdowns. In the end, the Argos had only 230 net yards.

But the Toronto defence was solid. In the second quarter, Michael O'Shea made his second tackle of the game and moved past Alondra Johnson and into second place behind Willie Pless on the CFL's list of all-time career tacklers with 1,035. And the defensive secondary picked off three Kevin Glenn passes and held the Bombers quarterback to no touchdowns even though Glenn did complete 32 of 48 passes for 321 yards.

So the race is on, will Vandercrack make more or miss more this season?????????

That was a 60% missed kick rate he had last night.  8O

He may have been more "relaxed" for those last two kicks.

By that point, everybody's expectations were pretty low, so there would have been no pressure on him.   :P

Wow, I go away for a few days only to come back and see that Radovarl posting under his 4th ID(or is it his 5th now?) has decided to also return here and douche the place up for a change.

Duke Nukem Forever.....puhleeze.  :?   No matter what they put out, it will be a disappointment.  Remember Daikatana?  I do....and John Romero did not make me his bitch like his advertisements said he would.

As for Diablo 3....I will believe it when I finally have Starcraft 2.
