Couple of questions:

1) Who will be arriving on or before Wednesday afternoon?
2) Is it too early to start thinking about where to get together for the Acaeum dinner?

I should be arriving in Indy sometime just after noon on Wednesday.  Once I get checked into my hotel I really don't want to just sit around doing nothing.  Can't really do much at the convention center except pick up my grab bag and wanted to know if some people might want to meet up somewhere (hotel lobby or something like that) and head up to what I have read is one of the best German restaurants in the Midwest.

Award winning menu and fifty imported beers....what's not to like?  :D   Just an idea....would be just as happy hanging out in a cheap Irish pub or someone's room eating pizza.

The Wife and I will arrive Tuesday....so we'll definitely be there by Wed night. I'm up for either a dinner, or a game, or both.  I'd love to run the dungeon I had planned, but time doesn't permit unless it's either Wed or Sunday night. If enough of us aren't entirely beat Sunday night that might be fun to do after everything has wound down...I know quite a few of us will still be in town (Al, Prufrock, King, Adder, Blackmoor, etc)

Hi,

we're going to arrive on Tuesday, around lunchtime.

There will be 5 of us, tho its entirely possible 2 will slope off with their CCG buddies.

I will have to set the stall up tho, and price stuff, but I'm certainly up for some evenings entertainment.

Isnt The Ram the place to be?

Cheers,
Malc

i didnt think it looked up to all that, in all honesty. i was more than happy to skip the massive crowds milling around it and sample other great places.

hope we're gonna still have breakfast in the same place though?

Al

Hi,

possibly - tho our hotel is attached almost directly to the Dealers Hall, so I may be doing the "falling out of bed 5 mins before the Hall opens" routine quite a lot :)

Where do you have breakfast?

Cheers,
malc

john knows every food place within 15,000 miles so he will confirm....was it called the red eye?

http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2 ... eye_cafe-i

http://www.redeyecafe.com/

the breakfasts there were excellent. it wasnt too busy so we got a seat fast, good service, good food and great company. cool way to start off the morning, and only a short walk back to the convention centre as well, so mike didnt moan about his mashed feet too much :D

i am quite happy to go there again for sure. sure john has some ideas for dinner later on though for sure, just before we head back and hit the auction room :) (barring thursday, i am guessing a large chunk of the daytime will be spent gaming)

Hello Everyone,

The cafe that myself, Killjoy, Badmike, and Kingofpain had breakfast in last year was indeed The Red Eye Cafe.  Cheap but very good food open 24 hours a day I believe.

The Ram is within easy walking distance.  Kingofpain I believe the Rathskeller is not within walking distance.  I will check on this, it is a very nice place to eat though.

Okay,

I would say the rathskeller is about 10 blocks from the convention center.

The Ram is a decent enough brewpub but it is ridiculously busy during the convention.  And I believe that several gaming groups (Kentucky Fried Gamers, Gamer Wenches) have a portion of The Ram booked up on Wednesday so I would expect it to be even more difficult to get in on Wednesday.

The Red Eye is a no-brainer for breakfast.  Any attendees from "across the pond" and the "land down under" will get a sample plate of biscuits and gravy on me if they so choose.  :)

The Rathskeller is definitely not within walking distance of the convention center.  We would need to take a shuttle bus, cab, or maybe Badmike's van if he is still planning on renting one that is.  This is just an idea for getting together on Wednesday and completely open to suggestions.  It's not like there isnt a ton of restaurants and bars right around the downtown area that we could go to.  I just figured that after a long flight, what is better than sitting around a biergarten drinking beer and listening to polka?

If anyone wants to check out other restaurants, bars, and their relative locations to the convention center, a GenCon forumite put together a few pretty good Google maps on the GenCon forum.

http://community.gencon.com/forums/t/14274.aspx

And Mike....there is a White Castle pretty close if you get the cravings.  :P

I'm scheduled to physically arrive at 1625 local time Wednesday, mentally probably Thursday morning.

Catching up sounds great, I'll just be going with the flow..

If the rathskeller is only 10 blocks from near the Red-eye, Al can quickly run there and back to check out whether it's worthwhile. If it looks OK to him we could then all grab a cab.

I would also be willing to drive.  I have a Saturn Vue (New!) that can seat 5.  I agree the Rathskeller would be fun.

Vegemite!  You will not find THAT in Indy.

Do I have to?  My dad went to Australia years ago and he brought back a jar of Vegemite.  I tried it and well....frankly it was probably the foulest, funkiest stuff I have ever tasted.  :puker:

Now after several beers....I could probably eat a Vegemite sandwich (would need mayo though), wash it down with a bottle of Clamato, and wouldnt blink an eye.

But I wouldnt eat just anything.  Haggis is right out.  8O   And here is a list of other things I would most likely not eat:

http://www.thesneeze.com/mt-archives/ca ... eat_it.php

Check out the Huitlacoche about halfway down the page.  I would rather starve than eat that stuff.  :?

right. after i arrive, i dont mind doing whatever. would be good to meet up and catch up, no matter whatever it is that we are going to do.

just remember though, with regards to bars etc, i will have my daughter with me (who will be 10 then), so i am restricted with regards to her, but if you guys wanna head to a bar or something, thats cool, as i will just find something else to do for the evening, so thats cool.

just let me know whats what, as i am quite open to any plans.

Al

ps. i think someplace not very loud would be good, as you guys will wanna chat a lot to brendon etc, and we will all wanna catch up, so you will want to hear whats being said etc.
