Tx Lordan, you know me, never serious! I'm gonna be going down the Eastern board this summer snake hunting. Georgia is supposed to be awesome. I'm completely turtleless ATM, I paroled them all to hibernate. I do have a 3' Variable kingsnake and a Yunnan rat snake running loose here somewhere, I need to find them so their spouses can get busy.
Then again, I may only have a king snake.............

Sad thing I noticed yesterday.

On my way to my brother's house, I had to take a detour because of traffic. The detour took me past one end of my old high school (40 years graduated this year). The HS was attached to a largish church and grade school complex, but was shut down about 15 or more years ago. There used to be a football/sports field neighboring a firehouse when I was there. The field and firehouse are now gone, replaced by a shopping center, of which there are already tons of shops in abundance in the area.

Now only memories of playing on that field for PhysEd classes remains. The spot where I broke my wrist during a flag football game is now an aisle in a shop.

Honestly I would just be thankful to see any brick and mortar businesses still open. They are quickly being run into bankruptcy by Amazon. I wonder if any will be left in a decade.

Back in 2000 there was a discussion amongst the IT guys about how the Internet would hurt brick and mortars. The general conclusion was they would be almost gone in 10 years. We did miss the estimate by a bit, but even then it was sort of a given.

There is at least one brick and mortar that will be around for awhile IMO. Noble Knight Games. While their prices are high they do have quite the selection.

Has anyone visited their storefront?

My only interactions with them have been online, and not for a decade or so.
Aside from antique stores run by crazy cat ladies, there are almost NO B&M's who do not have some sort of online presence now.

Late reply here on my part but yeah pretty evident she loved what she was doing. Too bad Tolkien wasn't still around Im sure he would have offered to collaborate. I never had that Atlas she created but I did have two sets of hobbit/lord of the Rings books, first one was the 70’s watercolor art covers and the other was the Brothers Hildebrandt/Ballantine edition. Maybe she did maps for that later one? Anyways as an artist its pretty inspiring, maybe Ill dabble with drawing some treasure maps to leave at the bar :)

A FYI for the masses. Scribd.com is a good site for reading and downloading ebooks and such. In order to download, you need to upload documents. The number varies but it is usually 5 uploads for every 1 download. You can also pay for a subscription, but I do not believe that allows downloads, only free reading.
I have done some testing, and after a certain number of uploads and downloads, the site no longer asks you to upload in order to download. I believe once you have "proven" yourself with uploaded content, it gives you freebies. You cannot upload material that is already available; however, testing has shown you can create dummy documents and slightly change the title and content of each one. In other words, you can create a Word document called Document 1, put some content in it, and upload it. Then change the title to Document 2 and change some content.
There is, however, a daily limit on downloads, it seems to be 20. If you create multiple accounts and upload through each one, you can download multiples of 20. They have quite a lengthy list of RPG stuff, including older stuff.

I went to see the movie Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it was pretty good! Of all the FF4 iterations, this is definitely the best. I was relieved in a way because I have always had a special place in my heart for the FF4 comic books. I personally own issues 90-416 along with all the Annuals (plus a few more), and I've read them all. I loved the banter in the comics between Johnny and the Thing in particular. None of the other FF4 movies captured their esprit de corps, and the previous movies had other problems. The 60's vibe was, perhaps the element which best honored the original comics. The casting was good but not great; I liked Sue Storm the best and Johnny the least. The movie felt somewhat rushed, like it was for an ADHD audience. The thing that surprised me most was that, and I didn't know until I arrived, was that this local theater has a special where all Tuesday, standard-format showings are $4.99! There were only five or six other people watching the movie with me. There are two end credit scenes; the first is important and the second is not (it's a cartoon commercial). I recommend you see it in the theater, especially at $4.99! :)

Well, 2 days ago I paid an insane amount of money for a movie ticket: 13 euro! This was well deserved however: I saw The fellowship of the Ring once again with my son! It is always a pleasure to see on a widescreen the scene "you shall not pass!!!"

This seems an unauthorised edition... i checked the url gyanbooks.com and found many other TSR books available over there... the point is that this publisher is in India...
