I was looking at Aaron's website the other day and noticed quite a few Rare's at some steep prices. (nobleknight.com)

Does he actually sell any of those at the prices he's asking?  How much of a profit do you think he's trying to make on them?  10%? More/Less?

I also recall a couple of Congressmen who went public and said that if they did not pass the stimulus Bills, that they were literally threatened with a 2,000 point drop in the DOW. Same Congress that got threatened with blame if an 'attack' happened after a failure to pass the Patriot Act... which no one was allowed to read. Not that any Bills get read.

You know guys - I just do not know what to think about this country's finacial mess.  The Republicans will have you believe that Obama invented deficit spending but the next 3 biggest deficit spenders where the two Bush's and then Reagan and he said that "deficits don't matter."  In my life time the only president to balance the budget was Clinton.

I'm tired of the liberals wanting me to pay for everyone else and I'm tired of the right wingnuts claiming the county is going socialist.  I'm tired of the liberals not allowing any real policy change in education.  Cannot fire teachers that suck - cannot reward those that are fantastic.  Tired of the Repulicans telling me that their values are better than mine while it seems they are screwing everyone but thier own wives - one of them looking for love in an airport bathroom.  

As far as who is responsible for the housing meltdown, if banks offer poor people money they will take it.  That's human nature.  People want to blame poor people for grabbing the money SHOVED under their noses - I cannot.  If you offer a thirsty man water how do you expect him not to drink.  We can all agree about personal responsiblity (I have an inlaw with 3 bankrupcies) but none of us on this website are poor.  I just put myself in their shoes.  Someone comes up to me says here's 200,000 dollars then winks and says "I know you cannot possible pay me back because you are poor, but I'm going to make a load of money selling this loan so go ahead enjoy yourself".

You got the right idea Martin.  Demo...Repub...they are all the same pile of dog turds...nothing different but the names.  We end up getting screwed while each party blames the other.  Every damn one of them is beholden to special interests and lobbiests who pay them lots of dough.  This latest fiasco is just a huge money grab....the politicians are looking at that pile of greenbacks like a clean pig looks at a trough full of shit, going nuts waiting to jump into it.  Sickening.

Just noticed that Joe Lansdale has published the first Hap and Leonard novel in eight years (Vanilla Ride), and I have it on hold at the local library. Joe is a Texas treasure, his crime and detective novels are the closest I have ever seen to anyone getting East Texas "right", warts and all.  He has a black humor, gothic style that cannot be imitated.  His Hap Collins and Leonard Pine novels are rough, filthy, hilarious, violent, suspenseful and not to be missed, especially the first three (the series tapers off a bit from there, but the first three are classic).  

Hap is a white trash liberal activist who dabbles in private eye work, and his best friend Leonard is a black, gay, conservative ex-vet martial artist who has an attitude and is constantly kicking the shit out of someone who says the wrong thing (and being east Texas, someone is always saying the wrong thing) or messes with his friend.  Some of the dialogue is laugh out loud funny. Good reads!

Last year an apartment building had a window in a unit with some shadow that got hundreds of Mexicans out worshipping it.  When they attempted to remove the window to preserve it, it cracked and broke.  The removal was televised and you could hear the gasps, cries and screams when it shattered.  The entire episode was ridiculous. The only voice of reason was a Catholic priest at the scene that castigated the worshippers for going bonkers over dirty glass in a window.

Oh, I dunno about that.  Many of the folks I deal with every day at work are highly "educated", and yet they're some of the stupidest people I know.  Spending four years in some ivy league liberal indoctrination camp doesn't magically enlarge the size of your brain or raise your innate IQ score.  If you're an idiot when you go in, you're still an idiot coming out.

The education system isn't what it used to be.  A college degree from a big school meant something maybe 30 years ago.  But now they hand them out like candy.  Colleges nowadays are just paper mills.  Seems to me they exist to make alot of money so the staff can make a nice comfy living without having to go out in the real world and work.  Forget actually holding students to a real world academic standard.  That would be hard, and the ACLU would sue them for "grading inadequacy discrimination" or something if they did.  So everybody gets a PC smiley face on their paper.

As long as mom and dad pay the bills little johnny silverspoon gets his degree and the sense of imagined superiority and un-earned entitlement that goes with it.
