Harley Stroh stopped by the Dungeon Crawl Classics Questions/Opinions thread and wrote the following:

"Hey guys, Ben invited me over to answer any questions that might come up.

Specifically, re: DCC 17.2.

I wrote a bridging adventure for the Saga of the Witch Queen collection, which Taco re-wrote for 1e. At the same time, Ben was helping us out with creating large scale, table-top maps for use at cons. As a thank you to Ben for his work, Taco printed up a home version of the 17.2. There might be a total of 3 - 5 copies out there somewhere.

The module was only officially released as part of the Saga collection. Taco's version is pre-art, pre-layout, and probably has scans of my original maps (as opposed to those rendered by our cartographer).

//H"

We now know the number to be 3-5 copies.  This number does not meet the number required for a "collectible pool".  So I would definately consider ThunderDave's collection complete.  With only one that we know of having been sold very few of us will ever know the pleasure of having a DCC17.2 in our collection.

Oh and Bill, you're wrong about the ST1's.

Martin

It is a nice feeling to actually complete a collection. Relatively unique items, in my mind, are not part of the "completeness." It's just a cool factor to say "nyah nyah... mine is more complete." Truly... none can ever be fully complete, unless one happens to have original drafts and editor copies (with marks) and so forth and so on. I don't think there's anyone who can say they have that, unless they made the game themselves.

Those who can, don't. Those who should not, do.

I agree, 17.2 would be a nice-to-have (ok, that's an understatement), but if an item wasn't ever released for sale/promo to the public, it's tough for me to consider it a requirement of a 'complete'.  I think ST1 qualifies (very limited release - one specific con, but anyone could have picked up a copy), the RPGA modules too (membership requirements), but not pre-productions items, manuscripts, editors/playtesters copies, etc.  Just my two cents, as Historian says, choose your definition of 'complete' :)

Thanks Harley for dropping by and sharing those comments :)

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

I agree with this, but ST1 was not released in the U.S. I treat it like any other foreign TSR product. If I were a TSR completist, I guess it would not matter, but my complete line is drawn at the foreign edition/product border. I would not mind collecting foreign edition stuff, but I have plenty of other stuff I am still chasing on this continent!  :D

The definition isn't just variable by collector, but by collection.  For some lines, I want every version, every printing, every magazine article... for others just the mainstream material is enough to be complete.

Making "complete" an essentially personal concept, not always easily communicable to others.

That's why we need this thread, as completion has no meaning anywhere else in the universe.

I do not know if this TSR Dragon Dice collection is complete or not. Surely not.
For the packs with the Dragon illustration, the code 8006 is mentioned on the back, even for the late version with the Dragon logo.

Nice dice collection!  :D  I've actually been hoping to get a sealed set of the old Dragon Dice with the crayon... and the percentile ones, as well.  I remember that was how I originally had to get my first d10s  lol  ;)  I am fearful to ask how much they cost now.

... and I thought my collection was good.  Most of you out there got me beat.

I just finished TSR Conan, the Volo Guides, and the 5th Age DragonLance.

I'm working on Ravenloft (2 left, Campaign Boxed Set and Carnival), and Forgotten Realms boxed sets (need the North, Kara-Tur, and Netheril).

Missing most of the Gazetteers, and a bunch of Planescape.

Oh, and all the really rare and expensive ones.  Of course.

Finished my Al Qadim set last week with a purchase on Ebay. Only need 6 more items to complete Spelljammer, 6 Lankhmar, 7 More Darksun and 9 Birthright. But I guess that makes sense because those are the smallest sets. I collect everything 2nd edition and before (D&D only) and only things that are actually used to play the game (so no beach towels, presto magics, calendars or trading cards).

I guess the "set" i'm looking to collect the most is the monos.  I only need 4 more. And gazetteers I only need 2 more.

I currently have 546 out of 896 items on my list with about 4 others on the way in the mail.

Started taking pictures of collection this week. A couple monor completes.

Here is an super easy complete:
1st Printing / Edition of Star Fleet Battles
Originally published as a stand-alone Pocket Game. One is my original purchase (punched) and the other is unpunched.
Image

2nd Edition of Star Fleet Battles
Basically same as first print but it now is in a box. Added some new ships.
Three expansions were printed. They were printed in digest format (same as original first print of the game).
Expansion I first print had same cover art as original pocket game. That was confusing so they reprinted with different cover.

Expansion II has three printings

Expansion III has a single printing

There are several more editions. More pictures to come.

I've been collecting Star Trek games recently. This was the classic other side to fantasy gaming in the old days: D&D/Tolkien for fantasy, Star Trek for sci-fi.
I have one of the SFB expansions, but mostly concentrate on Zocci's SF Battle Manual & all its copyright-driven iterations, leading to the more violent Star Fleet universe.

Also been collecting WizKids' new game, which has just released TOS Constitution-class ships. Haven't played it yet, but the dial is at least a little evocative of the Zocci pieces.
Of course the nacelles tend to break off, as the Enterprise is like the worst possible design. As far as I can tell, it is based on a an airplane fuselage with no wings, tail, or cockpit;
nose-mounted radar with the fairing removed; an exaggerated AWACS disc; & the exaggerated engines of a Lear jet. At least WizKids got the color more-or-less-right this time: Apollo white.

Nice. Star Fleet is more a boardgame or tabletop game with RPG elements or no RPG elements at all?
