Lots of fun to collect :)  Thanks to my Acaeum friends Smarmy, Badmike, Mars, Tacojohn, Islestrike, Collector's Trove, Burntwire Brothers, Soulcatcher, Lucyjoyce,  Aaron from Nobleknight, and of course Joe Goodman... this has been a real community effort to put together!

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

Shoulda been: ".. from Pangreenia to Floratopolis, from mystical Treeonia of spectral Forests to Schruborial dimensions." - The Forests of Leng

Excellent, so it is absolutely COMPLETE !

Ralph, the DCC 4.5 'My friend the formian' is included in Enworld Players Journal, issue #4.

And yes, this is an obscure reference, but Thunderdave! FKA davidc is an expert.

Pretty pictures, David.  I'm glad only the 1E material appeals to me!

In case you don't know, Saga Of The Rat King in your last pic has two versions - NKG and Gen Con.  I'm pretty sure it's only the front cover logo that differs.

Thunderdave,

Does this collection include the DCC 17.2?  I would still deem it to be complete if it does not.  There is so little info on this module and I believe that it was never mass printed.

Hi Martin, no, I hadn't even *heard* of 17.2 until Ben posted the other day... I missed out on it, and can't even bring myself to put it on the 'list' :)

Which brings up an interesting question, "If there is only one of an item, or even just a few of such an item, then does is it truly considered part of a collection line?"

The answer is, "Yes!" if you own the item or one of the few, and "NO!" if you do not!

Seriously, 17.2 was never factory produced like the other items in the line, so that's a strike against it.  Arguing that it was produced in limited supply is not a legitimate argument since there are other collectible lines which feature uber rare items, like the T206 Honus Wagner baseball card, of which only THREE were ever made, and that's still considered a part of the T206 line of baseball cards.  Maybe it's a bad question, but I am guessing we all won't be of the same opinion on this one.   :?

the best estimates are that between 60-200 Honus Wagner cards were distributed. Wagner had production halted because he didn't want to be associated with tobacco (the version i prefer) or because he wanted some compensation for his likeness (more likely).

That's true for the 1909 Rookie Honus Wagner card, but not for the T206 Piedmont Cigarette Ad baseball card of Honus Wagner.

there are about 57+ honus wagner t206 cards known to exist. of these 57+, 3 have the piedmont ad on the back. it is not true however that those three are specifically the most valuable of the wagner t206 cards. while one of them has in fact sold for 2.8 million, it has because famous in its own right for having been owned (and later sold for 500,000) by wayne gretzky (and the rumors are it was a cut from an uncut sheet, which would explain it's great condition). the ten of these that are in the best condition are the most valuable, rather than it just being a function of the piedmont ad.

As I said, I consider Thunderdave's collection to be complete.  My collection of Beholder magazines is minus #29.  An extremely rare last issue which to my knowledge only 2 have come up for sale in 10 years.  I consider my collection of Beholders to be incomplete.  To call a line complete the bar must be set high, however I believe Thunderdave has met that bar.  We do not even know how many of the DCC17.2 were made but everyone believe it to be a very small number.

So, you appear to be saying the number of something published/issued/created is relevant in determining if something is considered integral to a line of collectibles.   :?:

In this case - yes.  For an item to be collectible there must be a certain number available to collect.  Right now we know of one.  That does not meet the bar as far as I'm concerned.  That brings up the question of how many does meet the bar.  Enough that there is a market created.  Meaning that from time to time they come up for sale.  If ten of these 17.2's exist than there are enough collectors out there to grab them up and shelve them never to be seen again.  If there are 50-100 then we have a viable pool that allows for a couple to come to market every now and then.

There are always exceptions. I have never considered ST1 a completely legit D&D module or product as far as an inclusive TSR collectible. Not simply because of its small run, but because it was only produced in the UK. Now, if I were to start a UK only collection, then I would say ok.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!
