Thanks for making someone sat in a lonely corner of UK very jealous. This has been a great thread, loved seeing the pics of the event and some amazing items.

Having missed out on PotVQ from Gnat earlier this year, having missed the opportunity last year, I'm at least very pleased to get an opportunity to get a copy of Dwarven Glory.

Dang it! I really wanted one of the "research copies". Oh well, if anyone has an extra for a reasonable price, I'll take it.

If I had an extra I would be holding on to it. I think the value may rise quite quickly now. Right at the moment I would not take $150 for my copy.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the reprint was "WOW, I'm surprised WOTC gave the ok on this". Immediately followed by "HOW CAN I GET ONE!?!?!?".

but now I'm all sorts of confused on this (The Ghost Tower of Inverness)...this is an INTENTIONAL reprint of intellectual property (IP) that isn't owned by the company that had it printed. Now I know that NTRPG did NOT do it to make money instead they gave it away as an freebie to people that actually made it out to the 2011 convention. (I think thats what was posted on the NTRPG forums)

but....

If we (as collectors) can accept this, can we (as the same collectors) accept that people "bought" them specifically to make money on reselling them? If we can accept that, whats the REAL difference between this and the various people selling the cds full of PDF products or the people selling copies they made themselves from the PDF products?

Not trying to get anyones panties in a bunch...just trying to get a dialog going on it since we are all collectors on here (from the small time new guys to the famous wall collection guys). I'm pulling bits and pieces out of posts from this thread to get them all out into one post. Still think it was a ballsy move...just confused. As with all my posts...just my 2 cents.

There's nothing to be confused about, I don't think. There is no difference. And since only those who donated received copies, money was accepted for them (though I'm not sure it matters legally if profit is involved).

From a collecting standpoint, I personally would think anyone who owns a legitimate copy of this should be pissed, as it seems to me these replicas would lower the value of the real deal by their availability. Someone will sneak one past WotC on eBay eventually.

Why would you think that?
There were reportedly 50 Original Dungeon Masters copies of The Ghost Tower of Inverness handed out at the convention to convention DMs.
Of those how many do you think still exist?

These replicas are HALF Sized, and watermarked on every page.
They could NEVER be confused from an original.

As for Wotco getting one snuck by them on e-Bay?
Do you REALLY think it was Wotco who reported to e-Bay and demanded that my listing be removed?

And I cannot believe anyone would truly think that these 85 research copies would have ANY negative effect on ANY of those 50 original DM copies.
If anything (if I did own one of the originals) I would be thrilled to see those research copies being sold and can easily picture those research copies widening the market for originals through exposure alone if nothing else.
Gives my original more exposure as something worth collecting.
Not everyone who wants one and could afford it owns one...
And I suspect that some folks who can afford one, might henceforth search for them with more enthusiasm.

I see no potential impact on the value of the originals. The chasm of age between them ensures that those who want to feel of the originals will still seek the originals. But the impression is that it's a closed loop as the public in general don't have access to buy the items. I can see that being just for the likes of the Acaeum print, where everyone has an option to sign up to a commission, but this venture doesn't seem to be that way.

If it were a republishing open to the public to buy, then I can see that there wouldn't be so much money in it for those who bought copies, but there would be a greater chance for the playing public or the curious collector to read the likes of Inverness 1st, or Dwarven Glory.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Doug : Sorry about posting that in this thread, I probably should have created a new one...like you said, this one should be for the 2011 NTRPG con.

Even with all the "drama" for lack of a better word resolving around the Ghost Tower, I don't want this point to be lost: You guys still managed to put on one hell of a convention. Great guests, great everyting, great GAMING, etc. One of these years, I'm going to have to make it out there

Would be great to be able to go to a Con in the US sometime. Especially GenCon. Just don't see it happening anytime soon.

That is amazingly cool.

They're coming out of the freaking walls!

The Aliens game is a great tactical boardgame. Spacehulk is better and can be converted to an Aliens vs Colonial marines game fairly easily.

I haven't played Spacehulk, but if you're interested in playing Aliens, you can do so in this very nice flash version @ http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/408816 It has all of the bells and whistles of the Leading Edge version, so it's also a great way to learn how to try to beat the game too.
