Regardless it just shows how stupid the idiots that make policy for Ebay really are.

why shouldnt you have 2nd chance offers? i have things from time to time where i have more than 1 and will let 2nd and sometimes 3rd offers on an auction...some get taken, some don't. not all are dodgy you know!

Ebay shouldnt allow second chance offers for the very reason they are implementing this new policy....to get rid of the fraudulent offers. It makes more sense to me to do away with the second chance offers than to hide everyones Ebay handle.

I know not everyone on Ebay is a scumbag but unfortunately there are those who enjoy taking advantage of others' trust in the system. If they get rid of the second chance offers altogether, it seems to me that they would be able to stop the fraudulent activity of stated offers 100% simply because anyone receiving an email from someone with a second chance offer would know it is bogus.

There are other, simpler ways of selling off your unwanted second and third copies of items.

Very typical of Ebay's convoluted way of doing things, instead of doing away with the behavior that causes the problems they instead institute an elaborate system that causes more problems. Much as the new feedback system, all they had to do was get rid of Mutual Withdrawal but instead have the ridiculous "no negative feedback" policy.

I don;t think the hidden IDs has anything to do with 2nd chance offers at all. The seller regardless of the bid can still see all bidders involved. the semi-hidden bidder IDs is only so third parties casn't approach bidders on an auction with either legit or non-legit offers. I am not saying I like having a much harder time determining a shill(personally I think it sucks), I am just saying I don't think Ebay is trying to eliminate 2nd chance offers from seller to bidders with this thing.

No, I don't think they are after eBay sanctioned 2nd chance offers either - those are fee earners after all. I was talking about the so-called non-legit offers that certainly happen. I've had a few come my way and on all occasions so far I've said no (hmm, I think that's true anyway). Now I'm thinking, Why not? Okay, I can see why not from eBay's point of view because they lose a fee. But if the third party doesn't even have the item listed and all he's doing is using the eBay message system and public Internet pages to determine who's interested, is that really a hanging offense? Just because eBay decrees what we may or may not write in our messages on their system, do they really have any serious control over that? If a culture of doing this developed they might end up in real trouble. Things can go viral on the Internet. But even if it's not eBay's main intention to cut these offers out it has to have been a consideration. In addition, now that eBay has treated sellers with such contempt I, for one, have no qualms about returning the favour, whereas before I was happy to play along with the rules. Do I care about my eBay account now? NOOOOO. Not as much as I did before. Of course maybe these rules changes won't hit the UK and US at all. It will all come down to whether eBay OZ makes more money or less or no change I suppose. It'll be about the money though.

Agreed. There are certain names, that should they crop up on the bidder list I just don't bother because I know they are going to outbid me every time. Wonder what will happen to the buyer searches, guess they'll be switched off or else people could use them to figure out the bidder list - or at least get a few hints.

How does one ban certain users from bidding on my auctions? I can't seem to find it in "My ebay".

There's a few ways to get there, but what you eventually want to see is a link that says something like "Block or Pre-Approve Certain Bidders." That should take you to something that looks like this:

From there, you just add eBay IDs one at a time.

I am. The only thing I'm advertising on eBay right now is the boycott - wonder how long before I hear from them on that? Apparently there's a fair bit of confusion about how successful (or unsuccessful) this action is. It coincided with a free listing day and a lot of people have fallen for eBay's 'lowering' of fees con. But there certainly appears to have been some effect. And the bad publicity is leaking out to the mainstream media. Not that any of this bothers eBay I suppose but at least a few people are trying. I'll stick it out until the 9th whilst investigating other options.

i just put up a few items but thats pretty much it.

UK sellers should get a msg thing on their way to logging on ebay just now, asking them to update their account.

before 30th April, they have to declare if their account is for business or personal!

I still haven't bought anything...and I don't think I'll be listing any auctions for awhile. I have started re-listing some of my "sold" items in my ebay store, and I may be "store only" from here on out....since I don't have a lot of rare or unique items, auctions really aren't that an essential part of my business anyway.

You are not alone. Maybe it was bigger news here in the US than the rest of the world.

The eBay boycott was mentioned on various Internet news sites, including CNN (A summary of the boycott with links to previous articles is here: http://money.cnn.com/2008/02/25/smbusin ... 2008022611 )

I visit a few news/tech sites each day, so I came across some eBay overhaul and subsequent boycott articles when each was announced. But the news cycle is quick, and if you blink, you miss the news . . . it's old news now and gone from sight.

Spring is in the air, and Ebay's feedback changes are afoot. Just these last two weeks:

Two buyers on large orders (each over $50) have decicded not to pay, and not to communicate with me at all. I have had to file NPB on both, and then wait the mandatory 10 days to recover my funds, while meanwhile my merchandise cannot be resold. Good thing I can leave a neg on these deadbeat buyers to warn others, right?....Oh, wait.....

Due to Ebay's new suggestion that sellers offer free shipping, I've had buyer after buyer ask me if I could "ship the items free". Ebay's idea is for sellers to instead just raise the prices on the items a little, and let the buyer think they are getting a deal...of course Ebay is getting the deal because they make no money off shipping fees but do make money off higher final value fees. The implication is that if you don't offer free shipping, don't complain if you get bad "stars" in your shipping categories, it's YOUR fault for not shipping the items for free. Nice.

Ebay has also offered the advice to stop shipping internationally..because it will probably lower your DSR scores (they are finally acknowledging that shipping overseas may lead to buyers having unrealistic expectations) or offer free international shipping....nice idea there.

Anyway, if you want a laugh, read this discussion on one of Ebay's workshops. The EBay hack goes on and lists a bunch of ridiculous strategies for raising your DSR scores, then invites questions. The rep gets absolutely HAMMERED by pissed off sellers, ends up not answering about 90% of the questions, and basically stammers out lame buzzwords in an attempt to get through the Q&A session. Funny stuff.
