Hiya,

these are shipping to retailers in the UK next week, hopefully Monday, so should have them Tuesday.

Easy answer!  Two sets. :)

In the PHB reprint, they've used the reversed version of the "Magic Mouth" on page 108.

See this 2008 Acaeum thread for a description and picture (by chromaticknight) of the two different versions of the image:
Player's Handbook reversed art, different print version?

And here's a pic (by untimately) of the reprint, showing the reversed artwork alongside an original also with the reversed artwork:

This picture also shows the reduction in image quality in the reprints. Many details are lost due to reduced contrast. The eyes at the bottom of the stairs (on the left in these pictures) are hardly visible in the reprint.

Go on then, I'll ask the question..

Is anyone on for selling a MM, PHB, DMG (original covers, idol etc) in mint condition for less than $100 with shipping?

Hi,

dunno exact pricing yet. I will know when I get the info from the distributor next week.

But I am in the UK, so will include taxes.

Cheers,

I paid approx $86 for the three books (some of the sellers have them at a bit of a discount) including USPS media mail (the most inexpensive shipping for us here in the U.S.). Unfortunately I think it'll work out to be cheaper for you to buy it in the UK since the international flat rate box (assuming it could even fit into a medium box) is $48 and $61 for the large.

edit: maybe I'm misreading your question...are you asking about the new books, or mint versions of the originals?

That's unfortunate. Too bad no one checked or asked any questions here on the site.

I think the covers, binding, and paper are all superior to the original.
But I agree that some of the art sucks.
A lot of us have these in mint condition, or nearly; I wonder why we weren't asked.
The locations of at least 2 of the 3 original cover paintings are Known, but they didn't ask to scan any. (The original cover art excerpts are thus of worse quality than worst of all the problematic interiors.)

Thus, it seems that their budget for this was very low.
I have to agree with the "well, at least they tried" crowd... to an extent.
It's certainly not up to WotC's usual quality standards.

Spock, I'm asking if anyone would sell me the originals (whichever print) for under $100 inc shipping (or £ equivalent if they're in the UK) ??

Which store? I went to "The Box" today and they seemed to have plenty...the guy at the counter didn't say how many they got in.

If you believe that ADVANCED DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS is a game worth playing, you will certainly find it doubly so if you play well.

I guess we will have to revisit in 30 years, eh?

It's certainly not up to WotC's usual quality standards.

My 4E books were of Unearthed Arcana quality...

Here's an auction for a not-quite-mint PHB, $20, free shipping in US, $12 to UK.

** expired/removed eBay auction **

If I wanted copies myself, I could travel a mile to pick out the crispest, mintiest copies from the local Half-Price Books store, for similar prices.

$80.47 for all 3, before shipping ($12.97 Fedex Ground is the cheapest option listed), at http://www.coolstuffinc.com/  They also have free shipping if you order $100 worth of products, so....

On the quality front, I flipped through Jon's DMG at our game yesterday, and noticed a flaw on page 81 (above the rust monster McLean cartoon), where the printed text of "grant" at the right-edge of the page was obliterated in a ink splatter.  The art's considerably darker in several places, and where there was fine detail that's nearly completely gone now (as with the hex grids in the campaign section, for example).  Also noticed that the GenCon ad at the back of the index was missing, too....

I wonder if, based on this and similar tell-tales, we can ID which printing of each book that WotC used as the master to recreate the reprints?

Hey grodog,

I was tempted to drop US$100 to get those and something else for the free shipping but then saw the following:

"Valid for Contiguous US addresses only."

So guess not for me. :(

Best regards,
Ronald

Hi,

yes, Coolstuffs free shipping is US only unfortunately.

Or I would have had a ton of stuff from them before now :)

Cheers,
KAL
