thank you for the kind words cabala & Hector. I've certainly had a lot of fun putting the collection together. It began as a thank you to the creative people who designed wonderful worlds to explore. Several years later I crossed my rubicon and decided to try for "one of everything". Since joining the Acaeum that number has grown as the knowledgeable members have pointed out items unknown and variants undiscovered. in showing the pictures i suppose i hope that some people will see our hobby through a different prism and regard role-playing collecting in a culturally significant light.

plus i was so happy to get everything out of boxes. my books were in the dark for 28 years and have only been liberated to shelves for the last 7 :-)

stratochamp, I'd love to see the pics.

I'm still working on a good way to catalog my collection. Too much of the older stuff and small press items don't use the ISBN's to make the program I'm trying out very entry friendly.

Does anyone have a checklist in a spreadsheet format they would be willing to share?

I know that someone here can help me on this....

I want to start reading R.E. Howard as my lack of familiarity with his work is endangering my otherwise rock-solid nerd credentials.

Should I read them in order they were published or is there an overall story arc?

Have a recommendation for a compilation of his stories?

Thanks in advance for helping a fellow travellers un-stupid himself on a key element of appendix 'n'.

You should read them in this order: begin puberty, read R.E. Howard, lose virginity. If most of that has already happened, then the order doesn't really matter so just read them any damn way you want.

You can read them in order they were written, or in "chronological" order. Personally, reading them as written is best because Howard improves as a writer by leaps and bounds and the last few he wrote were technically superior to his first Conan yarns.

The best collections are the new Del Rey editions (The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian, The Conquering Sword of Conan, The Bloody Crown of Conan). De Camp and Carter attempted to fill in several blank spots of Conan's career in Howard's original writings, some are ok, some aren't. I think Conan The Buccaneer, Conan the Avenger, and Conan of Aquilonia are the best of these....I'd read Conan the Avenger and Conan of Aquilonia last (after all the Howard Conan's), as they sort of wrapped up the Conan saga (with the final battle against Thoth Amon). By all that's holy, stay away from their "Conan of the Isles", which is their attempt to put the final cap on the Conan saga. Simply awful.

The Original!! collection of Conan stories are certainly a must read and I agree with Mike in order is the way to go, they just get better and better. I also think his Solomon Kane stories are fantastic though.

Well, that was weird. I was talking to Badmike, bbarsh and JasonZavoda on mChat and.......nada. The whole ACAEUM web-site was down. I am thinking it was about 10:30 PM or something like that on Friday night. Seriously, we weren't talking bad about anybody. Really.

Oh, it wasn't down for everyone, just for you! I discovered a problem with mChat and the server's spam/hack protection, which basically was auto-banning people who entered certain characters in the chat. Sorry about that! Hopefully fixed now.
