Just for knowledge: i thought it wasnt possibile to determine the printing of a woody... Is that incorrect? What is the feature to look at in this case?

Awesome! There is still hope for finds!

The first print says first print on the inside covers of the books. The box grain is horizontal instead of vertical.

The placement of the decal plus horizontal grain pattern.

I have a third print box which is identical to the first, but the smaller/centered decal is an unmistakeable giveaway

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

Shoulda been: ".. from Pangreenia to Floratopolis, from mystical Treeonia of spectral Forests to Schruborial dimensions." - The Forests of Leng

Aia have you not seen the youtube video that Jon Peterson made regarding Woodgrains? He has some fellow in an ugly Speed Racer shirt talking about the different printings.

Hi Bill, thanks if you can post the link here... I didnt watch it!

Anyway, if i understand correctly, the feature of the horizontal grain is enough to state it is a first print...

Not quite, for a quick ID, look at the grain and the sticker

1st horizontal grain, small sticker
2nd vertical grain, small sticker
3rd, either grain, large sticker

Obviously have a closer look and do more research before bidding/buying, this is my quick reference check when scanning auctions.

Maybe only semi-noteworthy due to it all being shrink and the fact that I managed to find all of this in the span of two weeks.  And only overpaid “some”.
