Agree! I love visiting Italy and my Italian is rubbish as well, but it doesn't seem to matter as long as I make a bit of an effort with the few words I know. I am hoping to get out there again this autumn (at the mo. prob about a 50% chance, fingers crossed).

You mean those dumb kids the CIA recruited to snoop around out there, who got caught trying to sneak into Iran via Turkey through Kurdish territory in Iraq?

US tourists get accused of spying in alot of unfriendly places, if they are stupid enough to travel to them, or when they have to for business. It's mostly BS. But this one is pretty obvious. The Iranians are crazy but they are not stupid.

Who in the hell in their right mind would go on a "hiking vacation" in an area like that right now? Tourists my ass.

George Galloway is the laughing stock of Scottish Politics. He was on Big Brother, and he was entertaining Saddam Hussein when the rest of the world was at war. A real idiot, but he knows how to line his own pockets, and he's not embarrassed by anything that makes him money, so getting naked with bacon would be right up his street if there were money in it for him.

Have you seen these kids or heard the girl that was released talk? They are too stupid for even the CIA to employ (Ok, I know that imbecile Valerie Plame lowered the bar considerably, but still...). And I haven't seen evidence one that Iran has come up with to connect these guys to anything...hell, the kids haven't even had a confession (false or not) yet, you think by this time the Iranian secret police would have whipped up something for them to sign. The fact is, these kids were dumb, and the Iranians in charge are paranoid, evil and enjoy being assholes (ask anyone who was around during the 2009 Iranian election). It's that simple. Or you can believe Mahmoud "No gays in Iran" Ahmadinejad instead.

BTW, check out the plethora of cases of "spies" the Iranians seem to keep catching...do all these guys work for intelligence agencies also?

Well, if the bacon were nice and crispy, and there were some freshly sliced lettuce and tomato nearby, and a toaster for some bread, and some mayo to make BLTs with, I could easily be persuaded to get naked with a few pounds of bacon, then eat it afterwards...mmmmmmm......

What possible information could several mis-guided backpackers gleen from wandering over the Iranian border?

What CIA officer would recruit morons to wander around near Iran and make themselves into handy hostages?

The Iranians are holding them because the Iranians are crazy and stupid. This is about leverage, not espionage.
