T&T have a link with their web page shop and ebay.. when they list an item in their shop it is automatically listed on ebay and the ebay fees are automatically added to the price..

so if you buy this item through their shop its $1799.99

http://www.trollandtoad.com/p133274.html

if you buy it on ebay its this price plus the fees...

Brette:)

From the Troll and Toad listing:

Picture shown is a stock picture of a Original D&D Set (3rd Print)Woodgrain box. The actual condition is: Near Mint Condition Boxed Set.

Condition: Near Mint Condition Boxed Set
Complete, New or Like New Condition Boxed Set. Box may have very slight shelf wear. Interior items look to be unused.

Original D&D Boxed Set. 3rd Printing with woodgrain box.

If you look at the picture you will see that the box has been sealed in after-market shrinkwrap.

This means that the lister cannot examine the contents without opening the shrink.

So, the listing says, "interior items look to be unused," which would be accurate if one assumes that they have always been in shrinkwrap.

This is called "plausible deniability."  Troll and Toad's lister can claim that his words were completely accurate because he supposedly cannot remove the shrinkwrap to examine the actual items.

I have frequently defended Troll and Toad, with whom I have had many positive transactions....

That said, I have to agree that this listing is deliberately deceptive.

The picture has NOTHING to do with the ACTUAL Box Set being sold.
T&T admits openly....
THE PICTURE IS A STOCK PHOTO!

What makes you think, that specific box set also is also shrink wrapped so they would be unable to review the contents, or show them in pictures for potential buyers?
T&T's insistance on using STOCK photos and STOCK description has NO DEFENSE possible.
Simply put...
They Suck.

This is another case for the resident troll from T&T to come over and give out some platitudes about how her company is not full of shit, and not deliberately lying, deceitful or in any way full of shit. She's already justified the errors on all the other listings on eBay by saying they've spent their time concentrating on correcting the OD&D listings, so maybe she can also explain why she lied about that too? Or are her staff just f"ckin' idiots?

So where are you Mrs Troll? Are you going to turn up and answer the critics, or have you realised your position is untennable?

Should've read better.  The listing goes down a step further.

I think this one may be my favorite T&T listing:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

To quote:

Picture shown is a stock picture of a Original D&D White Box Set (5th Print). The actual condition is: Boxed Set missing the box.

Condition: Boxed Set missing the box
This is a complete set other than the box is missing. The dice may also be missing.

I suppose the listing isn't misleading so long as you read it.  But is it really a good sales practice to show a picture of the one thing you actually aren't in fact selling?

Decent looking OCE OD&D White Box Set

Complete with the reference sheets and the three books.

Only $8.99 with 4 days left...

Seller states $3.75 shipping (Media Mail) which means he/she might just wrap some brown paper over the White Box and stick a stamp on it and send it by Media mail to get beat the hell out of.

Or the seller might pack it inside another box with padding and pay more than he/she charges the buyer.

I do not know... I do not know how you could possibly (safely) ship a Box Set for so little charge.

But If I was interested in bidding on this listing; I would ask seller for MUCH better protection and an upgrade on shipping (such as a Priority Flat Rate Box) and would do so BEFORE bidding...
