I prefer the folded-space methodology for temporal transversion, myself.

That's the one where the destination date is set with air samples from the relevant time-period, isn't it? Hence the practical need for shrinkwrapped items to supply a sample, plus precise information about when the shrinkwrapped book was printed & sealed. I guess that's why we need the Acaeum, otherwise we'd be spinning off into the far corners of spacetime.

Just in case anyone is interested in getting these reprints, I discovered today that Diamond (DCD) is going to distribute them, so that means that you can order them from any comic book shop that deals with Diamond.  :)  This might be helpful for those who don't have a local gaming store to deal with.  I found out earlier today because I was entering orders from Previews for a bunch of customers at a local comic book store that I work part-time at on weekends.  :)  The current issue offered the books, which was good news for me, because I wasn't sure if retailers would be able to purchase these books if they didn't deal directly with Wizards of the Coast.  (My comics store doesn't.)  It's also good news for me, since I will be able to get an employee discount on the books from the store I work at.  ;)  If you want your comic shop to order them, notify them soon, since the Previews order forms are due from the comics retailers to Diamond by Thursday.

Any idea if we can get these outside the US (specifically in the UK)?

Thanks for the idea Katchoo!  My local store was telling me WOTC would likely ration the books and they may/may not be able to get one... I approached a comic dealer who deals with Diamond, no problem!  Thank you :)

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

you can do it through Westfield Comics. They're a very reputable company that have been around a long time now..maybe since the early 80's.

I see on their site they only have listed the premium Monster Manual (with the incorrect photo)

I didn't see the listings for the DMG or PHB, but maybe they'll put them up soon or you can email to ask when those will be listed.

EDIT: looks like there's a coupon code for new customers for 10% off. Use "NEWBLERG"

Yeah, but it says they won't be available until July, 2012. Wonder what that means... WotC already planning a 2nd printing, and Paizo doesn't get first dibs? The date has been pushed back for release?

The new release date for the books is July 17th.  Apparently the release was delayed when it was discovered the printing company used by WOTC does not have access to the fonts used in the original books, and some kind of work around was needed (this is what I was told by the store owner who took our order).  This sucks for Doug and I, we had ordered 10 sets of the books hoping to sell some at NTRPG con this year and have them available for collectors.

The store I ordered them from says they're a box set... but the WOTC suggests individual pricing on the books... any thoughts?

Heh,

The store I per-ordered mine from specifically said that they were only sold individually. I would like them to be a boxed set though, but it's my impression that the majority of us here know exactly as much or more than the stores do. Hell, if I were them I would have a hard enough time keeping up all the releases with sure sellers (like CCG's and 40K) than worry much about the niche product whose target audience is individuals like myself with money but zero interest in anything else they carry.

My two cents.

I follow WotC's current releases quite closely (hey, stop judging me  ), and I've not seen anything at all indicating that these are going to be released as a boxed set. All the evidence, including WotC's own online catalog, points to three individual book releases.

The 4e set was released as a boxed set when it first came out, maybe your store is confused? Everything in the catalog and every site I've visited shows them as separate purchases.

The whole thing is starting to sound like a move by Hasbro to strengthen their legal ownership. Compare to this account of Tolkien film rights in the 1960s:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... Way-Online

In other words, Hasbro has in recent years allowed (by default?) OSRIC to exist. Doing so may inadvertently undermine their own rights to the material, so they've made the new reprints with intentions that might be:
a) Lawful Good, in order to allow peaceful co-existence.
b) Lawful Evil, in order to allow legal attacks upon the OSRIC community.

p.s. Bilbo's girlfriend is named Princess Mika. She doesn't mind if he wears platforms when they go out.

I just picked up a few sets for the NTRPG con.

These are absolutely beautiful books, it's just great to see the 1E words and pictures on bright shining white paper.

It's a really awesome package, from the covers, to the endpaper, the endpages, and construction (they seem to be high quality).

Prediction: You will be kicking yourself in a few years if you don't pick these up now, and you'll be paying a premium price for them at that point (when/if they go out of print again).

After seeing how nice these are, I'd pay a premium price for any old school TSR module released with the same care and quality.
