I find that it being Star Wars has no impact on its mind trick capacity. In fact, that may have detracted from it slightly seeing as how much I "enjoy" those movies.

The quotes that intrigue me are:

It sounds to me like they are trying to do nostalgia and new rules at the same time.

I'm not sure that'll work real well. Furthermore, I always thought the better, and easier, marketing route was to appeal to youth. Maybe WOTC tried the news rules on young people and they didn't like them! :twisted:

So now they are desperate? Maybe I'm just getting crotchety and cynical.

Still, I give them a lot of credit for trying. And if it works, I'll be as happy as anyone. If they are successful in appealing to former players, that means our collections likely grow in value!

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.

If nostalgia is how they're trying to drag "me" back into gaming, then that opening quote about a half-orc ranger ain't the way to go, LOL. Half-orc ranger. In my D&D rangers kill half-orcs.

But whatever. Admittedly I am pressed for time and could never hope to both put in the prep time I used to spend on AD&D campaigns and expect 2 - 5 other players within driving distance to do the same, all on a regular basis. But this is not an alternative for me; the charm of the game bitd was the near-total immersion in the game world. Dropping by the FLGS for two hours of "D&D Encounters" with a pregen once or twice a month doesn't appeal to me even a little.

There's a difference between dressing in drag (or whatever the opposite is called) for an entertainment show and dressing in drag to turn on the significant other. I would definately not want the wife (if I were married) to be saying, "Your powers are weak, old man!" whilst wearing a Vader costume, regardless of wether it were made to her specs... for more reasons than one! :lol:

I have to agree. Now if I could find a local group of old D&D fogies like myself to game with a couple of times a month (at one of our homes), then I just might play again. Until that happens, my "D&D encounters" are just going to have to consist of reading gaming materials and playing Baldur's Gate 1&2 over and over again.

Rather glad to be watching a World Cup that isn't on the other side of the world, thus needing early morning wake up calls and days off work to watch the big games!

World Cup update, England vs USA, couldn't be better than an Saturday evening kick off...

However, kick off is 19.30 (BST), although it is expected USA to turn up at 19.41 and claim victory.... :wink:

Yes - not a bad game at all. Both teams quite cautious at this stage, which is common for the early games in such a big tournament. I think the US did really well considering that football isn't that common over there (although more so than maybe ten years ago I think??). And the american keeper is very good! On this viewing, both the US and England will likely get out of the group round and into the play-offs, perhaps the quarter finals. From there - anything can happen ... it is the World Cup
