Indeed it is. That's why I don't care much if people don't leave me feedback. It's rude, but they have every right not to leave feedback. Some people in the collecting community don't want to leave feedback because they don't want to leave a trail behind, or they don't want their X***X designation becoming known or propogating, which is also understandable., but on the whole most people who don't leave feedback fit into the rude catagory. But it is their right, and I have no objection to them exercising their right not to do so.

I agree, and as a seller, I always leave feedback for the buyer as soon as payment is received. It's common courtesy. If somehow I forgot to do it and the buyer reminded me, I'd be perfectly willing to go back and do it as long as the reminder was phrased in terms of a request rather than a demand.

I hadn't thought of the reasons you cited for some collectors being reluctant to leave feedback.

I sell, from time to time, to Acaeum or DF members through eBay, and whilst I leave feedback, I do not expect feedback in return. Most are returning customers, and they would PM me if they were dissatisfied anyways, so there's no need for feedback to let me know something has arrived. I've even been asked on occasions not to give feedback as a seller as the buyer doesn't want to sale to appear on their eBay history (reselling at a high profit, present for spouce, spending money they don't want their spouce to know about, telling their spouce it was $40 and not wanting them to know it was $200. Who knows?) I'm happy enopugh to oblige, but generally leave feedback and don't expect any in return. I don't care much about getting feedback from sellers I buy from either. I just don't put much truck in the whole feedback system. It only ever influences my buying or selling to a customer if it's negative, and in those cases you can be sure the buyer will leave feedback.

I don't care if your contact with the seller was polite, rude, scathing, terroristic or dark lord ominous....you are the customer.  He is the merchant.  Everything else is completely irrelevant.

You were asking the merchant to give the simple service and courtesy that any customer would expect to have been rendered immediately and cheerfully.  Customer service does not depend upon the customer's attitude, lifestyle, hair gel, dress code or relative rudeness.  The merchant renders this service because it is at the heart of good business practice.

A basic principle of business is that a dis-satisfied customer will tell at least seven other people about their bad experience.  It takes seven more good references to undo the impression left by the bad reference.

Please post this seller's EBay identity.

He deserves bad reviews and he deserves to lose business because he gave a customer a snotty reply when he was the one in the wrong.

The email could have been better phrased.

I'd apologize for the tone of the email, even if you don't believe the tone was rude, and ask again for feedback.

If of course, you really give a damn about feedback, as you seem to.

I agree.  The trouble is that many people who sell (and buy) on Ebay are not professional service providers but are put into a position of having to deal with customer service.

In this case, it is clear the seller doesn't care (otherwise they would have left feedback already) and are not professional (obvious from their response).

People are people and you are not likely to change them or their attitudes.  The best thing to do is forget it and move on - chalk it up as another Ebay experience.

So lets say you sold something to Cougarrinard and forgot to leave feedback for him.  Two days after the sale (he hasnt received the item nor left you any feedback yet) he sends this scathing email:

"WHERES MY POSUTIV FEEDBAK YOU STUPID, FAT YANK PRICK!?!?!?  YOU SHUD AVE LEFT IT FOR ME FIVE SEKUNDS AFTER I PAID YER *unintelligible garbage* ASS!!!!!  YER A LOUSY SELUR AND I'M GOING TO TELL ALL MY FRENDS NOT TO BIE YER CRAP!!!  YOU AND THE REST OF THE LOSERS ON THAT SHITE FORUM CAN SUCK IT!!!  LOL!!!!"

So you are going to tell everyone reading this that you would actually bend over backwards, kiss his ass, and leave him some obviously well-deserved feedback?  :?

I agree with FormCritic in that you have a right to expect good service and a polite and punctual response to e-mails. But both parties are offered to choice to leave feedback or not, and whilst a rude response to your message is highly inappropriate (even if he took your message that way), FormCritic is wrong in that neither party has a right to feedback. We all agree to eBay's rules and policies when we trade on their website, and it is clear that feedback is always optional.

Sorry, King, that email is completely unbelievable. For one, you spelled far too many words correctly....

I couldnt even pretend to be that stupid.  :(

The point I am trying to make is this:  The idea that the customer is always right is a bunch of nonsense.  I've worked in customer service most of my adult life in one way or another and there are times where the customer is not only wrong, but gets his ass kicked out of the store and told never to come back.

"Do unto others as you would have done to you" is still a good tenet to live by.  Just because as a customer you hold the majority of the power when you enter into a money-for-goods exchange with a seller doesnt give you the right to abuse that power.

LOL!     Cougarrinard is a pretty extreme case.  Communication between customers and merchants seldom descends to that level.   He's hardly an example of the usual communication between merchant and customer.

But let's say that Cougarrinard sent me that note...why wouldn't I go ahead and leave him accurate and courteous feedback?  No rude words from Cougarrinard could hurt me.  Even if I was momentarily miffed, I would have suffered no injury. The note would roll off me like water off a catoblepas.

The only thing he could do after the money is exchanged (assuming no actual fraud this time) is post me unjust negative feedback...which he will do for sure if I am rude back to him.

My two cents:

The original email sent by the buyer came across a bit terse, maybe even pointed.  Probably not how I would have worded it.

But the seller's response was way out of proportion and unjustified.

And yes, in my limited Ebay experience I am not shy about asking sellers to give me feedback.  When you have a small number of transactions you need all the "credit" you can get.  But I'm pretty darn tactful about it.

my response would be:

Dear Seller,

All you had to say was 'I'm sorry for the oversight,
positive feedback has been left'. Instead, you  send me a
shitty email. Well what makes you think I ever want to buy
from you again?

Just come buy and sell at RPGMarketplace.com

We have automatic feedback... if both parties forget, the system send you a reminder in 2 weeks, if you still forget the system auto feed backs both parties with 5 stars with a message like:

No problems reported by the seller/buyer (auto feedback) ...

So there you go, taken care of, everyone gets feed back if they forget :)

Or you could flag the seller up by eBay ID and point him here. Say, "Thanks for the shitty e-mail. Now there's a whole D&D board aware of you and they probably won't be buying from you either."

That is a great idea....

dwarvenfreak

Out of Australia.

http://myworld.ebay.com/dwarvenfreak?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1181

I purchased three Lovecraft (Cthulhu) posters from him in February.

Here is a link to one of the posters I purchased from him.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150414088886

All the posters arrived safely, without damage, and in good time (coming from Australia anyway)

So, without hesitation I posted Three Positive Feedbacks for freak on March 13, 2010.

Three sets of FIVE stars were included....

SIX weeks later I sent the E-Mail (requesting feedback).

I would not be surprised if some other members here purchased one or more of his posters at some point in the past.

Do not know if any of them got feedback or not.

He has nothing listed on E-Bay right now.

In light of Gnat's emails, I just received this email looking for feedback from a company on Amazon that I bought from. Even though it seems like more of a command, I personally didn't find it rude as I didn't take Gnat's message to be rude. Some folks are just more straightforward than others :)

We just wanted to follow up with you on your order from us.

If you receive a book and are unhappy with it for any reason, then please reply to this email.

If you are happy with your order then please go to Amazon.com and leave us feedback. Excellent feedback allows us to keep selling books. You can do it using the feedback link at the top of this email.

Thanks again for your order!

Did they ever give YOU feedback?
Did you have to ask?
Probably not, they likely took care of your feedback some time soon after you paid...
That E-Mail you posted was from the sellers...
I was a buyer and my ONLY duty in the transaction was to pay for the listings in a timely manner.
Which I did almost immediately after the listings ended.
IMO that makes a big difference.
