well, yes, there can be a time for straight talking and 'growing a pair' (I work in the motor vehicle repair trade and it needs it) but I like to think this is a place of sensible people with a love for the same game. Sometimes a 2nd opinion is sought just for peace of mind, so ask away, I say, and if I can help I will   :)

Sorry for that.

I will try to avoid asking for help from now on, since it seems to annoy some folks so much.......

DUUUDE GROW A PAIR!

Seriously, I found this thread helpful... the responses were good. You concerns are the same I have had.

If somebody replys with a big "SHEEEESH!" remember they still took the time to read and respond. The "SHEEEESH" part was maybe a fraction of that responses energy... and should be taken as colorful exuberance.

Please don't question yourself so much. You wanted opinions and you got some. I liken it to thinking out-loud with friends. Some friends like to give sound advice and some like to stir it up a little.

Let's see ... in my response, I:

1. Offered a couple of choices, complete with links, in case you didn't have them;

2. Tried to offer a couple of theories as to why the two guys in question might use eBay so infrequently;

3. Gave some bottom-line advice, to wit: just cancel the bids if you're uncomfortable.

And, yes, I did it with a couple of barbs. Guilty as charged. Given how you regularly mock other people at this site, though, particularly for their buying/bidding habits, I figured you might be able to take it as well as dish it out. Clearly, I was wrong.

Enjoy your drama; I won't be getting in your way any longer.

So if I were to bid on the Gnat's items I might get my bid canceled because in four years or more I have a feedback of less than 50?

Remind me not to bid on the Gnat's items.

I wish to apologize to any and all who read this thread.
I never should have started it.

And most especially, I apologize to Xaxaxe.
You were indeed trying to help and I had no right to be an azz and I will not offer an excuse (There is none) just my sincere aplogies.

However; my reasons for starting this thread were honest and I did so mostly due to the many HORROR stories I have read here on this forum from real sellers who have a lot more experience in selling than I do.

Even though my E-Bay account shows over 550 feedbacks, I have only sold about 50 items all told in over 5 years time, and most of those were over the past month or so.

All the rest were as a purchaser.

I was just trying to get some advice from those far more experienced than I am.

For Taveller: 50 feedbacks would not bother me....

I have only cancelled ONE bid from one bidder on one listing, and that was because the bidder never wrote me back when I asked him to explain why he had just ONE feedback in TWO years....

It took me a while to even figure out how to do it, since I had never done that before.

He wrote me this morning to say he had just read my E-Mail.

I wrote that same letter to the other low feedback bidder in another of my current listings (Three feedbacks in SIX years).
That bidder is still in the hunt because he wrote me back and gave me an explanation that I found quite plausible.

All I wanted was a reply from low feedback bidders (1 and 3) to my simple question.........
I do not feel that is asking so much.

Yes you should have, and without apology.

It's agood thread with useful insight.

If Traveller actually read you posts he would have inferred that you merely needed a contact from the buyer and that if it was one of us you would have felt fine about the bidding.

I read it all, and somewhere along the line I was trying to make a point, that point being that it's a lot of wasted energy to be obsessively paranoid over low feedback bidders who have spent long sums of time on ebay. Such things are a fact of life on ebay. Everyone who sells runs the risk of getting burnt, but it goes with the territory. By the same token, everybody who buys runs the risk of getting burnt. This all boils down to trust, and how much of it to place in other parties. I'm sure Gnat's bidders are asking themselves how far they can trust him at the same time he's on here asking us if he should trust them.

The difference is that Gnat has a lot of positive feedback while his bidders do not. And a seller always risks being screwed by a bidder even one that wins an auction and does not pay, by receiving negative feedback and low DSRs. The profesional sellers like T&T and FRP games can take the negative hits because they selll in volume, but a private collector selling on ebay gets more easily screwed with a few bad customers. And ebay does not allow a seller to block customers simply because they have a low rating.

Gnat is an excellent seller on ebay and I wouldnt hesitate to buy from him.

Nah, no worries from my end. No biggie.

And you're right, we tell a lot of horror stories here. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that most eBay transactions are without problem ... those just don't get posted as much.

Lastly, you should definitely post here if you have some concerns or need some eBay tips/tricks. Don't let the idiots in the peanut gallery shout you down.

I agree I think some of us do tend to obsess over the handful of Cougars or Scubabri's out there without pointing out 99% of transactions end up just fine. I'm guilty of that myself.

Case in point, a few months ago a guy with ZERO feedback that had been registered since 2007 or so without buying anything bought a $100 item from me (Battletech Star League).  I was REALLY sweating this transaction as it seem ripe for fraud. However, I was very surprised as the guy emailed me after he got the item and thanked me saying he had been looking for a nice copy for many years now, and he left me positive feedback immediately.  It turned out (I discovered from exchanging emails with the guy) that he hadn't bought before because he had been overseas in Iraq the last few years and hadn't been doing any ebaying.  So all my fears for naught.

No feedback or having outstanding feedback wouldn't have any affect on who I sell to. Only negatives with good reasons would influence who I sell to. If all sellers had policy that a bidder must have a certain level of feedback, than noone would sell anything ever. We all start off at the big goose egg.

Problem is sellers can't leave negs anymore, the system implies every buyer is genuine and "right" and infers that every seller is at least partially a crook and should bed watched very closely.
