The Christie's auction ran for three full days, and was a real blast.  Two of the highlights -- and present in the auction room for the three days -- were the original models of the Enterprise from both the first movie and from Next Generation.  Much to my surprise, neither was actually in all that great shape, having been stored in a garage, and one of them had suffered water damage from a leaking roof.  Denise and Michael Okuda were at the auction (they were graphic arts supervisors and technical consultants for Star Trek), and I asked how they felt about these models being sold.  They actually said they were happy, since it meant the models would go to someone with the money to restore and take better care of them.

The Enterprise A was about eight feet long . . . and sold for $240,000, before the buyer's premium (which is 20% of the hammer price up to $200,000, and 12.5% for anything over that).  The Enterprise D was about 6-1/2 feet long, and went for a cool $500,000 (again, before the buyer's premium).  I never heard who won them (each was sold to someone on a telephone, and not in the room).

One of the comments made at the auction is that the Enterprise D is probably the last model spaceship that will be made of that size.  Since CGI is so good now, they no longer make models like these.

Needless to say, my desk (which was featured in an episode of Enterprise) cost a bit less than an Enterprise.  A lot less.

And I can tell you from personal experience, Frank and Tim are much better auctioneers than anyone at Christie's.

Yep . . . I do show up (very) briefly.  Unfortunately, it hasn't led to any other television roles.

Just an example out of that mind-boggling auction, at a tad over $60K this puppy could get you every TSR rarity and a couple of common hardbacks as well!! (though this item has the added benefit of giving you somewhere comfy to sit and watch re-runs )
