How sad.  Will say a prayer for Mr. Arneson.
I hope is passing is easy and his family finds peace in his memory.

Truly a sad day.

That is sad and a true loss to the gaming community. Despite never knowing or meeting either of the creators of this wonderful game, I feel as though I did from their vision, creativity and wealth of comments from these very boards...

Thoughts are most certainly with the family and friends.

So sad :(

Few people can claim to have influenced a large section of the current (and many of us are working on the next) generation.

We have lost several great persons in the last year.
A loss to the gaming community and a great loss to his family and close friends.

And the rumours are now flying that someone got their wires crossed and gave the wrong information: that he's not dead yet, but rather been moved to a hospice.

If that is the case, I feel bad for his family.  (Well, I also feel bad if it isn't the case; but they don't need false reports added on if that is the case.)

Those rumors would appear to be true -- as of moments ago, Dave was reported alive, but in hospice.

As of this writing, Dave is still with us. We have moved him into a facility where we can focus on keeping him comfortable. We have been and will continue to watch the forums and blogs and are passing along everyone's thoughts and prayers. Right now our focus is on getting Dave into the best possible position to maintain his comfort and his dignity. We will update the community as we can. We want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers and ask that you continue to send Dave your support in whatever form that means to you.

An address has been established to receive messages to Dave.

Farewell.

His creations will outlast all of us here. I am sad to see him gone but glad that any suffering he had is over. My condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed and he will be remembered.
