whats the deal?? has been done here also
there is no monopoly on sales

more like good advice for person with mod to get expert opinion not take first offer. carl is no big time dealer

Oh, Harami, still sore that you got outbid?

I really don't like to deal privately with people who are dishonest, or have numerous multiple identities.

Got any copies of "dont give up the ship" for sale, maybe??

Cheers,

nothing reasonable in $1400 for mint copy if you know can get $4k++ easy

Please show me where you have seen or heard of an ST1 (Mint of not) sell for anywhere close to $4k ++   .... :?

Well?......

Now you are feeding the fires from the other side. :?

While I agree that offering $200 is arguably dealing on the wrong side of outright theft, from the sales figures I have read here at the Acaeum, an offer of $1400 is FAR from being an insult, though it MAY be a bit low if the Module is mint.
IMO:  $1,400 is a reasonable offer for an unknown item.
It was a BLIND offer for a rare item that may not even exist in the context of that guys post!
And if the offer was replied to in a positive way for one that was in MINT condition, then I am quite sure that the price would be adjustable for a truly MINT copy.

A blind offer was being made for a sight unseen item.
It was not an offer for a KNOWN Specific Item.
That offer was not being made for one posted on E-Bay or the Acaeum classifieds with pictures scans and detailed descriptions......

Even in mint condition, I have never heard of (or seen) any ST1 sell for over $2,500 and there is only ONE instance (That I know of) of one selling at that price...
ONE. Not several, or even two. JUST ONE.

$4k ++..... lol    where ever do you get those funnies from?

I really do not have a dog in this race....BUT,

You do realize that the auction history on the site as it shows right now is not a comprehensive listing, right?  Aside from that, there hasn't been a sale of an ST1 for less than $1400 in a long time, regardless of condition.  If the ST1 is in fact "Mint" as the person is claiming, then $1400 is downright ridiculous.

Beyond that, and again I am not trying to take sides in this, but a few other things as *I* see it:

1)  I am not sure why David's attempt to hide his posting ID here has much of anything to do with the points he is making, it's clearly an ad hominem attack and it really has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

2) I think that calling someout out on this forum in a dispute that happened on some other forum is in incredibly poor taste.

3)  I also think the fact that you partook on a fishing expedition in attempt to buy an ST1 for far less than you know its worth and then get so upset when someone busts you for doing it is bad form as well.  Let's face it someone busted you for doing something that you damn well know is at the very least shady and to blunt, could very well be construed as being dishonest.

I did not get to GenCon, but I assume some ST1's were sold there from your links.

OK.....

I saw a picture of an ST1 hanging at someones booth presumeably at the last GenCon.

I saw no sales price there, not even a sales sticker....

And the other two links were just as helpfull.

You linked to a couple of Acaeum threads that I was already aware of, yet still no confirmed sales prices.

One of the two posts was from Lawrenson stating that someone from T&T OFFERED 4K for the lesser of two ST1's and was turned down because they are not true collectors and therefore unworthy to own an ST1.

So, I am still waiting for a confirmed sales price of "easily $4K ++....."

Well?

There is a big sign in the middle of the picture that clearly states:

"ST1-Up the Garden Path

The Rarest TSR module

Ever Produced

$4,200"

It's kind of hard to miss.  :?

As far as the links he posted, Malcolm clearly states that someone from Troll & Toad offered him $4000 for one of his and he decided against selling it to them:

lawrenson wrote:One thing I didn't mention at the Con was that T&T actually offered me $4000 for the cheaper of the 2 ST1s -- but I decided that I really didn't want one going to someone that, erm UNAPPRECIATIVE  :D

ETA: It's really a shame that this thread had to be started.  :?   This is one of those situations where no one wins.

B... I was not taking sides on the overall issue either.
Like you, I have no dog in this hunt and in fact I would not buy an ST1 even at the $200 theft price (except for an immediate re-sale). 8O
I am a collector.
Not a seller.

I was asking about possible confirmed sales prices that was quoted at being "easily $4k ++...."

I still am.
That was a PRICE handwritten on a sheet of paper (Which until you pointed it out I missed, thanks). Still a price sheet does not equate to a sales price.

Hell T&T had a OB3 on sale for 8K and everyone stated how stupid that was.
Later they relisted for just 5800... what a steal at almost 3k off!

Are you guys now saying that all it takes is a freaking for sale sign to equate value?

Right............

If one of those ST1's sold at GenCon for easily $4K ++, then thats all I wanted was some confirmation on that.

yet thats not what was given.
And still hasn't.

And yes, I am quite aware that the sun is bright and that space is vast and that the Acaeum is not a know all be all price guide for RPG collectables........

But thanks. 8)

And also, one more time.
He was NOT making an offer for any specific MINT copy of ST1.
In the posts I read; he had made a BLIND offer for ANY ST1 that might surface in the UK at some future time.

HE WAS SHAKING THE BUSHES GUYS.......

And said as much in his first post.

Perhaps you guys are reading some other posts that have not been linked in this tread, or one I missed.

Who said this thread had anything to do with "good"?  I'm just trying to figure out which side people are on and which side is winning.  From where I am sitting I don't see any winners at all just yet.

Agree. No winners as yet.  Nor I suspect are there likely to be.  I haven't seen a thread get this personal this quick in a long time...

I would agree with you J and the thread created did actually start out that way until this was posted halfway down the thread:

lawrenson wrote:Hiya,

current estimates (from one of the authors) suggest roughly 80 - 90 sold, plus whatever was snaffled by TSR staff (say another 20?).

However, it is a really naff adventure, so hopefully quite a lot of these will have survived, as it wasnt played much

Condition is paramount on this one I'm afraid - particularly those interesting "spine cracks" that ST1 is prone to.
Anywhere between £100 up to £700 for a near mint copy. I suspect you really wouldnt get much more on Ebay, unless you had an extremely good rating and were in the USA.

Cheers,
Malcolm

I find the bolded part that I highlighted to be particularly troubling.  But like I said above, no matter who "wins" in these types of situations, everyone loses in the end.  :?

Hiya

1.  as advertised. Not, unfortunately, as sold. Quite considerably less. I will not advise the price, but Blackmoor can attest to that.

2  I was  offered 4k for it by T&T on dealer setup (which is why I said 4200). As stated in the above post, I refused to sell it to them. I decided I would rather take a considerably lower offer to see it with a good home with a collector, and that it what I did. Also see above post.

Obviously, this selling it at a much lower price makes me mercenary, apparently.  8O

I did eventually accept a the $100 they offered me for a softback MM, but you can buy them on Ebay for $20...  and I had it on the stall all weekend at $40 and no-one bought it. However, I guess NOW they are worth $100, as T&T has paid that, right?

Cheers,
Malc
